MEC EDDIE MAILA DIRECTS IMMEDIATE MAINTENANCE INTERVENTION AT DILOKONG HOSPITAL, DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY ON FACILITY UPKEEP AND STAFFING

The Limpopo Department of Health has intensified its oversight and maintenance interventions following the unannounced visit conducted by the MEC for Health, Mr Eddie Maila, at Dilokong Hospital in the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality last Friday.

Acting on the observations and directives issued during the visit, the Department’s Infrastructure and Maintenance Team responsible for the upkeep of health facilities is at Dilokong Hospital today, Sunday, to conduct a comprehensive inspection and attend to identified maintenance-related challenges by replacing taps in the bathrooms, Kitchen zinc, showers, fixing toilet seats and fixing and unblocking manholes affecting the facility.

The intervention demonstrates the MEC’s commitment to ensuring that hewst not be allowed to compromise patient care, staff morale or the overall functionality of health establishments.

MEC Maila directs all managers across the Department to ensure that health facilities under their responsibility are properly maintained, that defects are reported and addressed without unnecessary delays, and that facility conditions are continuously monitored. Managers are expected to take ownership of the state of their facilities and ensure that maintenance issues receive urgent and appropriate attention.

The MEC will also convene a meeting with the Department’s Executive Management to reflect on the observations made during his recent oversight visits, assess the operational challenges identified, and ensure that corrective measures are implemented.

A key concern emerging from the visits is the shortage of personnel in certain facilities. This matter will receive serious attention as part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen human resources, improve operational efficiency and ensure that healthcare workers are adequately supported to deliver services to communities.

“The condition of our facilities directly affects the quality of care we provide. We must ensure that our hospitals and clinics are properly maintained, functional and responsive to the needs of our patients. Equally, staffing challenges must be addressed with the urgency they deserve. Our patients must remain at the centre of everything we do,” said MEC Maila.

POWER RESTORED, SERVICE DELIVERY UNLOCKED AT PHOKWANE CLINIC

[ Phokwane Kgalauwane Lefakong] Following his unannounced oversight visit to Dilokong Hospital earlier this morning, MEC for LIMPOPO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (BOPHELONG) Mr Eddie Maila proceeded to Phokwane Clinic in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality to address challenges affecting the delivery of healthcare services.

The clinic had not been operating as usual since Monday due to electricity-related challenges. Through the MEC’s intervention, power has now been restored, enabling the facility to resume normal operations and continue serving the community.

During the visit, clinic management raised concerns regarding staff shortages. MEC Maila immediately conducted a Gemba walk through the facility, identifying additional challenges, including sewage spillage near the main entrance and an environment that was not welcoming to patients.

He directed the Department’s Chief Director of Infrastructure to address the matter without delay.

MEC Maila also commended the work being done by the facility and urged the Operational Manager to escalate challenges promptly through the appropriate management structures, while keeping the Office of the MEC informed where necessary.

“My office is working 24 hours. Facility managers must feel free to call whenever they experience challenges or when they are not receiving the necessary assistance from their seniors,” said MEC Maila.

The visit reaffirms the Department’s commitment to responsive leadership, decisive intervention and ensuring that healthcare services remain accessible, functional and patient-centred.

MEC MAILA TAKES DIRECT ACTION TO IMPROVE PATIENT EXPERIENCE AT DILOKONG HOSPITAL

[Driekop village]MEC for Health in Limpopo, Mr Eddie Maila, today conducted an unannounced oversight visit to Dilokong Hospital to monitor the delivery of healthcare services and provide support to management and staff.

During the walkabout across the OPD, Casualty, Maternity Ward, Pharmacy and EMS station, the MEC assessed operational conditions, medicine availability and the overall patient experience.

The visit identified challenges including prolonged waiting times for patient files, non-functional restroom taps, a slow and unresponsive file-management system, shortages of cleaning personnel and critical staffing gaps, particularly in the Maternity Ward.

MEC Maila directed the Hospital CEO to compile a comprehensive report for submission to the Office of the MEC.

"I am impressed about the general operations and cleanliness of the facility and please ensure that matters within your immediate control are addressed without delay" said MEC Maila.
