MEC for Finance, Mr Kgabo Mahoai, is today leading the Limpopo Provincial Treasury Strategic Planning Session, setting the tone for the review of the Department’s plans towards the 2027/28 financial year and the mid-term.

The session provides an opportunity for the Department to review and adjust its plans, confront challenges affecting its work, and agree on what needs to be done differently and better.

The work of Provincial Treasury has a direct impact on the ability of government to deliver services within the available resources. The planning process must therefore result in clear processes supported by the systems and resources needed for implementation. The task is to ensure that the Department’s plans respond to the needs of government and, most importantly, contribute to better services for the people of Limpopo.

The MEC for Finance, Mr Kgabo Mahoai, is today in Kromkloof Village, Ward 8 of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality, for the Oversight Visit and Launch of the Kromkloof Water Treatment Works, which forms part of the Jakkalskuil Water Scheme.

MEC Mahoai has joined the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Pemmy Majodina, Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and COGHSTA MEC Mr P**e Shayi for the official handover of the state of the art Water Treatment Plant. The project represents an important investment in improving access to clean and safe water for rural communities in Mogalakwena.

The Jakkalskuil Water Scheme is expected to benefit 26 villages and more than 42,000 households, reaching over 294,000 people in the surrounding communities.

From a provincial finance perspective, the project demonstrates the importance of directing public resources towards infrastructure that responds to the needs of communities and delivers lasting value. MEC Mahoai welcomed the progress made, noting that public investment must translate into functioning infrastructure and improved services for residents.

MEC Mahoai emphasised that government remains committed to ensuring that the infrastructure is properly maintained and sustained, adding that communities also have an important role to play in safeguarding these facilities against vandalism and theft. Protecting public infrastructure will help sustain the benefits of this investment and enable government to extend services to other communities that require similar infrastructure.

The MEC for Finance, Mr Kgabo Mahoai, in his capacity as the Capricorn District Development Model (DDM) Champion and representative of Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, is participating in the Oversight Visit and Official Opening of the Seshego Water Treatment Plant in Seshego, Polokwane Local Municipality.

The programme is led by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina, supported by her Deputy Minister David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Dickson Masemola, Limpopo MEC for CoGHSTA Mr P**e Shayi, and hosted by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Cllr John Mpe.

The MEC is pleased that the infrastructure investment aimed at addressing water supply challenges has contributed to a more reliable and sustainable water supply for residents of Polokwane City, Seshego and surrounding communities.

MEC Mahoai commended the cooperation among the three spheres of government in addressing water challenges. He emphasised that stronger coordination and collaboration are essential to strengthening the water supply system and reducing disruptions caused by challenges such as pipe bursts, vandalism and theft.

Today’s programme also provides an opportunity for government to engage directly with communities on water provision and the work underway to improve the reliability of supply.

Budget Analysts strengthen skills to drive better use of public funds in Limpopo

Budget analysts from across Limpopo have strengthened their capacity to improve budget planning, analysis and resource allocation following the conclusion of a five-day Budget Analysts Capacity Building Programme held in Bela-Bela.

The programme, aimed at enhancing the technical capacity of provincial officials, provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in budget analysis and strengthen their contribution to effective and efficient management of public resources.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their active participation, commitment and undivided attention throughout the important learning programme.

In her closing remarks, Limpopo Provincial Treasury, Chief Director for Budget and Public Finance, Ms Ramadimetja Masekoameng emphasised the importance of translating the knowledge and skills gained during the programme into meaningful action. She said participants were committed to applying what they had learnt when they return to their respective workplaces.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that every rand spent delivers maximum benefit to the people of Limpopo and contributes meaningfully to improved service delivery and development in the province,” she said.

Ms Masekoameng also expressed sincere gratitude to National Treasury and the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) for their continued support, guidance and contribution towards strengthening the capacity of provincial officials.

The facilitator, Ms Amanda Jitsing from GTAC, encouraged participants to build strong coalitions and partnerships with both provincial and national departments. She emphasised that collaboration is key to sharing expertise, addressing challenges collectively and strengthening efforts to achieve better outcomes for the people of Limpopo.

The programme concluded on a positive note, with participants encouraged to take the lessons learnt forward and apply them in their respective workplaces to strengthen budget analysis, improve resource allocation and contribute to more effective and efficient public service delivery in Limpopo.

MEC for Finance, Mr Kgabo Mahoai is participating in the Taking Legislature to the People Programme at Senwabarwana Sports Ground in Blouberg Local Municipality.

Over the past few days, Members of the Provincial Legislature have visited projects and service delivery points across the Capricorn District to assess progress and challenges on the ground.

Today, attention turns to the findings from those visits and what needs to be done to strengthen service delivery and accountability.

From a finance perspective, the programme provides an opportunity for the MEC to assess whether the resources allocated by government are translating into functioning infrastructure and better services for our people.

Taking the Legislature to the People brings oversight closer to where people live and where government’s work is felt. It is democracy in action, giving expression to the principle that the Legislature is the voice of the people and that the people should use it.

*Day 4 | Strengthening Collaboration and Public Finance Practice*

Officials from various Provincial Departments responsible for Budgeting continue to demonstrate strong collaboration and collective leadership as they pool their expertise, exchange insights and work together through practical exercises facilitated during the session. The training is offered by Government Technical Advisory Centre.

Today’s learning focused on key areas including Procurement vs Supply Chain Management, Strategic Procurement, Contract Management and other critical aspects of public sector financial management.

Through active participation, shared experiences and collective problem-solving, officials are strengthening their knowledge and practical skills to plan effectively through deep dive budget analysis and to strengthen support and monitoring for accountable public finance management.

Their continued engagement reflects a shared commitment to learning, improving systems and building a stronger public service that delivers for communities.

Day 3 of the Budget Analyst Capacity Building programme is exercise-driven, providing participants with practical activities designed to promote active engagement, problem-solving and the application of critical-thinking skills.
