COSAS CAPRICORN REGIONAL TASK TEAM DEMANDS AN END TO CORRUPTION, FAVOURITISM AND THE SELLING OF POSTS IN EDUCATION

The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) Capricorn Regional Task Team has noted with grave concern allegations of serious maladministration and abuse of authority within the Capricorn South District of the Limpopo Department of Education.
We are particularly concerned by allegations that the Capricorn South District Director has bypassed established shortlisting and recruitment procedures, abused administrative authority, favoured certain candidates and manipulated promotional appointment processes.
There are further allegations of irregular promotions, interference in recruitment processes and failure to implement labour rulings. These allegations are extremely serious and demand an immediate, transparent and independent investigation.
We are equally calling for the immediate removal of the Circuit Manager of Pietersburg Circuit, pending a full investigation into allegations of maladministration and irregularities affecting recruitment, appointments and the administration of schools within the circuit.
COSAS will not remain silent while allegations of the selling of posts, favouritism, political interference and corruption undermine the education system.
A position in the Department of Education must never become a commodity to be bought, sold or allocated through personal connections. Schools belong to learners, educators and communities not to corrupt networks.
We therefore demand:
• The immediate investigation of the Capricorn South District Director;
• The immediate removal of the District Director pending the outcome of the investigation;
• The immediate removal of the Pietersburg Circuit Manager pending investigation;
• A forensic and administrative review of recent promotional appointments and recruitment processes;
• Investigation into allegations of posts being sold or exchanged for favours;
• Full implementation of outstanding labour rulings;
• Transparency and accountability in all future recruitment and promotion processes; and
• Protection for whistle-blowers and employees who expose wrongdoing.
We are calling on the Limpopo Department of Education and the MEC for Education to act decisively. We will not accept endless meetings, empty promises and investigations that disappear into filing cabinets.
If the Department fails to act, COSAS Capricorn will mobilise learners and communities and march to the Limpopo Department of Education to demand accountability.
This is not a fight for positions. It is a fight for a clean, professional and accountable education system.
The era of selling posts must end. The era of favouritism must end. The era of impunity must end.
