🐍 Meet Shaka — our magnificent Reticulated Python and the largest snake at Lawnwood!

Shaka joined us in 2007, donated by uShaka Marine World in Durban after she had simply outgrown her enclosure there. At roughly 5 metres long, it's easy to see why — she is an absolutely breathtaking animal!

Shaka is what we lovingly call a "big personality" — she keeps even our most experienced staff on their toes, and handles are always approached with the greatest care and respect. She has certainly earned her legendary status here at Lawnwood! 😄

At around 40 years old, Shaka is believed to be approaching the later stages of her life, which makes her story all the more poignant. We feel incredibly privileged to have shared so many years with her, and are committed to making sure her remaining time with us is as comfortable and well cared for as possible.

🦜 Meet Coco and Peanut — our charming African Grey Parrots and two of the most entertaining residents at Lawnwood!

Coco and Peanut joined us in 2010 after their beloved owners passed away, with the family trusting us to give them a safe and loving forever home. We couldn't have been more delighted to welcome them! 🧡

These two have been inseparable companions for years — and while they never quite got around to making any babies together, they've more than made up for it in personality! They're a little shy at first, but once they warm up, watch out — Coco and Peanut are incredibly intelligent and wonderfully talkative, with a repertoire that includes farm animal noises and a very cheeky wolf whistle! 😄

They also have a great love of bathing — always impeccably turned out, these two!

Last week, we survived the worst storm to hit the Western Cape in the last 30 years; despite this, all of our reptiles are safe. We have no electricity and probably won't have it for another week or two, but we want to let you know that we are still open. Please bring cash or book online via our website, as we have no way to take card payments until the power is restored. Please come and support us during this trying time if it is safe to do so; we would love to see you.

🐍 Meet Fast and Furious — our legendary Black Mambas and two of the most fascinating residents at Lawnwood!

Fast and Furious arrived together from KwaZulu-Natal in 2016 and, as you might expect from Africa's most famous snake, they made quite an entrance! Both were extremely nervous when they first arrived and took a full year to settle into their new home.

And Fast? Well, he took his name very literally — he fasted for an entire year after arriving before he finally decided Lawnwood was worth eating for! 😄

Furious has his own little quirk too — his absolute favourite spot is on top of their box, tucked under the cover, where he likes to sleep and hide. And unlike some of our other residents (we won't name names 👀), both Fast and Furious are remarkably well behaved about going to their heated box every evening — especially in winter!

🐊 Meet Digit, T-Bone and Mr Perfect — three of Lawnwood's most iconic residents and our magnificent Nile crocodiles!

These three gentle giants have been part of the Lawnwood family since 2008, arriving from KwaZulu-Natal after outgrowing their previous enclosure. Having grown up around humans, release into the wild was never an option — so we were delighted to give them a spacious, safe and comfortable forever home here in The Crags.

Each one has their own personality and identity:
🐊 Mr Perfect — the only male and the largest of the three. Handsome, imposing and very aware of it!
🐊 Digit — one of our two females, recognisable by the missing scale on her tail
🐊 T-Bone — our other female, identifiable by the damaged tip of her tail

The cooler Plettenberg Bay climate suits them just fine — they spend their days contentedly basking in the sun. In fact, they sit so still that many of our guests mistake them for statues… until one slowly opens an eye or turns its head! 😄

🐍 Meet Dustbin — our magnificent Spectacled Cobra and one of Lawnwood's most extraordinary residents! 💖

Dustbin came to us as a generous donation from Pure Venom Reptile Park in KwaZulu-Natal, where she was chosen to complement our very own Indian King Cobra here at Lawnwood. She has a beautiful indoor/outdoor enclosure that she clearly adores — and she loves nothing more than retreating to her cosy nighttime box at the end of the day.

That said, don't try putting her to bed in winter — she can be quite the grump about it! 😄 We love her for it.
