Urgent Flood Update No. 2:
Nature's Valley
Date: 3 June 2026
Time: 15:30

Dear Nature's Valley residents,

🚰 CRITICAL WATER ALERT
The freshwater supply storage has been topped up to maximum capacity. However, the team has now shut down the pumps.
The extreme and dangerous currents in the river have made it impossible to continue operating or restarting the pumps.
Please conserve water immediately.

⚠️ Rising Water Levels
Water levels continue to rise in all low-lying parts of Nature's Valley.

🏢 Municipal Office & Patrols
The municipal office is closed, and workers have been sent home.
Municipal teams will continue to actively patrol the area.

🚨 Critical Hazard Warning
Floodwater from St. Patrick's Avenue is running past the municipal office and through Phyl Martin Park.
The water has lifted the municipal septic tank out of the ground, making the area highly unstable.
Avoid this vicinity entirely. Caution, caution!

📱 Communication Breakdown
Cellular and network reception remains down across Nature's Valley.

🛣️ Roads & Passes Status
St. Patrick's Avenue:
Avoid the area. Debris blocked the stormwater drains, causing severe flooding. Teams have unblocked them, and water is slowly dropping, but it remains unsafe.

R102 Groot River Pass (Western Side):
Rockfalls are actively increasing. Drive with extreme caution.

Eastern Pass: This route remains open and clear.

Groot River Bridge:
River water is rising rapidly.

🚗 Submerged Vehicle
A white Mercedes-Benz is half-floating on property in St. George's Street, opposite Heather Street.
It is unoccupied and caught in the stormwater line.

Please prioritize your safety, limit your water usage, and avoid all affected zones.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE – CLOSURE OF THE R340 IN WITTEDRIFT ⚠️

📅 Date: 3 June 2026 at 15h10

Dear Residents,

The R340 in Wittedrift closed approximately 20 minutes ago due to flooding. This is the road entering Wittedrift from the N2 on the Keurbooms area.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid using the gravel road into Green Valley from the N2 Kwanokuthula side, as conditions are unsafe and may deteriorate further.

We urgently appeal to the public to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary during these severe weather conditions. Flooded roads, poor visibility, and rapidly changing conditions pose a significant risk to motorists and pedestrians.

🚨 To report emergencies or request assistance, please contact:

📞 0800 212 797
📞 044 501 3217
📞 044 501 3174

Please remain vigilant, stay safe, and continue to monitor official municipal communication channels for updates.

N2 KWANOKUTHULA FLOOD MITIGATION UPDATE

Following the recent work undertaken by SANRAL to reduce flooding risks at the dam in Kwanokuthula, the situation has improved significantly.

The blocked culvert beneath the N2 was successfully located and opened, allowing water to flow freely through the culvert once again. Given the substantial rainfall received throughout the night, the current situation is encouraging and the results of the intervention appear very positive at this stage.

This intervention has substantially improved drainage in the area and reduced the risk of flooding.

Bitou Municipality wishes to thank SANRAL and all stakeholders involved for their swift response and ongoing efforts, particularly as the area prepares for severe weather conditions.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to report any flooding or storm-related incidents to their nearest Community Hall or Municipal Office.
