NOTICE TO KURLAND RESIDENTS

Update on Kerbing Works Aanblom street

Dear Residents,

The Municipality would like to provide an update regarding the ongoing kerbing works in Kurland.

We wish to assure affected residents that:

1.The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) has notified all affected residents.
2.Arrangements are in place to ensure residents continue to have vehicle access to their properties during the works.
3.The laying of kerbs is expected to be completed by Thursday, 10 September 2026.
4. Although rain is anticipated on Thursday and Friday, the expected weather conditions are not anticipated to have a major impact on affected residents or the completion of the works.

We thank residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding while these improvements are being carried out.

Bitou Municipality Clarifies the Legislative Framework Governing Municipal Procurement

Bitou Municipality is committed to ensuring that all procurement processes are conducted in accordance with the principles of fairness, transparency, competitiveness, accountability and value for money as prescribed by South African legislation.

As the Municipality is currently implementing procurement processes, inter alia, the appointment of a service provider to manage the Destination Marketing function, it is important to clarify that every procurement process is governed by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), the Municipal Supply Chain Management Regulations, the Preferential Procurement Regulations and the Municipality's approved Supply Chain Management Policy as well as National Treasury MFMA Circulars.

This guarantees that all municipal procurements are aligned with Council-approved priorities and approved budgets before any procurement process commences.

The appointment of a service provider for the Destination Marketing function is amongst of the numerous procurement processes that are subjected to similar legislative requirements and tourism destination is not immune to similar processes.

Bitou Municipality remains committed to openness, accountability and good governance, and will continue to provide accurate information on municipal processes through its official communication platforms.

Tree Pruning of Protected and Indigenous Trees within Natural Forest Areas Located in Electricity Infrastructure Servitudes

Please be advised that tree pruning and vegetation management activities will be undertaken within the electrical
servitude area to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the electricity network.

Some of the vegetation within the affected areas may include protected and indigenous trees. Any pruning or vegetation clearance involving protected vegetation will be undertaken in accordance with the applicable environmental legislation, approved permits, and requirements of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DEFF) in terms of National Forest Act 84 of 1998.

The purpose of these activities is to maintain the required clearance between vegetation and electrical infrastructure, thereby reducing the risk of electrical faults, outages, fires, and potential safety incidents.

The work may include:
1. Pruning of branches that encroach into the required electrical clearance area.
2. Removal of vegetation where necessary to maintain safe access to electrical infrastructure.
3. Management of vegetation within the electrical servitude in accordance with approved environmental
requirements.

Residents are kindly requested to co-operate with the appointed teams while the work is being carried out. Every effort will be made to minimise disturbance to the surrounding community and environment.

We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation in allowing this essential maintenance work to be completed safely and responsibly.

MEDIA RELEASE | The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, David Maynier, visited the Bontebok National Park on 29 August 2026, to receive a briefing on the park’s recovery following severe flooding on the Breede River in the Western Cape in May 2026.
The flood resulted in severe damage to some of the park’s chalets, the picnic site, and the near complete destruction of the main access road to the accommodation area. The total cost of repairing the damage is estimated to reach R12.3 million.
