*Public Notice: Operator outreach programme in Piketberg*

Bergrivier Municipality would like to inform residents and transport operators that the Western Cape Mobility Department will officially launch its Helpdesk on Wheels initiative in Piketberg on *Tuesday, 9 June 2026.*

The programme aims to improve access to government services, particularly for rural communities, and will provide assistance with applications, complaints, enquiries, regulatory services, and information on the Department's online portal.

Bergrivier Munisipaliteit wil inwoners en vervoeroperateurs in kennis stel dat die Wes-Kaapse Mobiliteitsdepartement op *Dinsdag, 9 Junie 2026* sy Helpdesk on Wheels-inisiatief amptelik in Piketberg sal bekendstel.

Die doel van hierdie inisiatief is om toegang tot regeringsdienste te verbeter, veral vir landelike gemeenskappe, en sal ondersteuning bied met aansoeke, klagtes, navrae, regulatoriese dienste en inligting oor die Departement se aanlynportaal.

*⚠️ UPDATE: UNPLANNED ESKOM ELECTRICITY INTERRUPTION IN VELDDRIF AND DWARSKERSBOS*

NB:_Restoration Delayed_

The Municipality would like to provide residents with an update regarding the ongoing unplanned electricity interruption affecting Velddrif and Dwarskersbos.

Eskom personnel are currently on site and are busy installing the new electrical component required to restore power to the affected areas. Unfortunately, the installation process is taking longer than initially anticipated. Current estimates indicate that the installation work will require approximately another two (2) hours to complete.

Once Eskom has successfully completed the installation and the network is declared safe for energisation, the Municipality will commence the process of restoring electricity across Velddrif and Dwarskersbos. This process is expected to take a further one (1) hour to ensure that all affected areas are safely and systematically brought back online.

Residents are kindly requested to switch off electrical appliances once electricity has been restored. This precaution is necessary to prevent excessive demand on the network during the restoration process and to reduce the risk of overloading the system.

The Municipality understands the inconvenience caused by this outage and sincerely appreciates the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all affected residents while the necessary repairs are being completed.

*⚠️ ONBEPLANDE ESKOM KRAGONDERBREKING IN VELDDRIF EN DWARSKERSBOS*

_NB:Herstelwerk neem langer as verwag_

Die Munisipaliteit wil graag inwoners op hoogte bring van die onbeplande kragonderbreking wat Velddrif en Dwarskersbos affekteer.

Eskom-personeel is tans besig met die installering van die nuwe elektriese komponent wat benodig word om die kragtoevoer na die geaffekteerde gebiede te herstel. Ongelukkig neem die installasieproses langer as wat aanvanklik voorsien is. Volgens die huidige skatting sal die werk na verwagting nog ongeveer twee (2) uur neem om te voltooi.

Sodra Eskom die installasie suksesvol afgehandel het en die netwerk veilig verklaar is vir heraanskakeling, sal die Munisipaliteit begin met die herstel van die kragtoevoer na Velddrif en Dwarskersbos. Hierdie proses sal na verwagting 'n verdere een (1) uur neem om te verseker dat alle geaffekteerde areas veilig en stelselmatig weer aangeskakel word.

Inwoners word vriendelik versoek om hul elektriese toestelle af te skakel sodra die kragtoevoer herstel is. Hierdie voorsorgmaatreël is noodsaaklik om oormatige aanvraag op die netwerk tydens die herstelproses te voorkom en die risiko the verminder dat die stelsel oorlaai word.

Die Munisipaliteit besef die ongerief wat hierdie onderbreking veroorsaak en bedank alle geaffekteerde inwoners opreg vir hul geduld, begrip en samewerking terwyl die nodige herstelwerk afgehandel word.

Eskom has confirmed that the required electrical component is available. A technician is currently en route to Velddrif to install the new component.

The repair work is expected to be completed by 18:00.

A follow-up communication will be issued as soon as more information becomes available.

*KRAGONDERBREKING OPDATERING*
Eskom het bevestig dat die nodige elektriese part beskikbaar is. 'n Tegnikus is tans oppad Velddrif toe, om die nuwe part te installeer.

Die herstelwerk behoort om teen 18:00 voltooi te wees.

'n Opvolg kommunikasie sal uitgereik word sodra meer inligting beskikbaar is.

*PUBLIC NOTICE: UNPLANNED ELECTRICITY OUTAGE – VELDDRIF AND DWARSKERSBOS*

The Municipality would like to inform residents of an unplanned power outage affecting Velddrif and Dwarskersbos since earlier this morning.

The fault was reported to Eskom and has been confirmed to be on Eskom's network. Eskom personnel are currently on site investigating and attending to the fault.

Municipal personnel are also at the municipal substation, where the necessary switching process is currently underway to assist in restoring services.

The water supply is affected only in the Velddrif area. The generator that powers the water pumps experienced a technical failure after one of its relays burnt out. Municipal teams are currently carrying out repairs to restore the generator to operation as soon as possible.

At this stage, no estimated restoration time can be provided. Further updates will be communicated as soon as additional information becomes available.

The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience and cooperation while this matter is being addressed.

*PUBLIEKE KENNISGEWING: ONBEPLANDE KRAGONDERBREKING – VELDDRIF EN DWARSKERSBOS*

Die Munisipaliteit wil inwoners in kennis stel van 'n onbeplande kragonderbreking wat vroeër vanoggend dele van Velddrif en Dwarskersbos geraak het.

Die voorval is by Eskom aangemeld en daar is bevestig dat die fout aan Eskom se kant van die netwerk voorkom. Eskom-personeel is tans op die terrein besig met ondersoeke en herstelwerk.

Munisipale personeel is intussen by die munisipale substasie waar daar tans deur die nodige skakelproses gewerk word om die situasie te bestuur en die herstel van dienste te ondersteun.

Watervoorsiening word slegs in die Velddrif-gebied geraak. Die kragopwekker wat die waterpompe van krag voorsien, het 'n tegniese fout ontwikkel nadat 'n part uitgebrand het. Munisipale personeel is besig om die nodige herstelwerk uit te voer om die kragopwekker weer in werking te stel.

Op hierdie stadium kan geen beraamde hersteltyd verskaf word nie. Verdere opdaterings sal aan inwoners gekommunikeer word sodra meer inligting beskikbaar is.

Die Munisipaliteit vra om verskoning vir die ongerief en bedank inwoners vir hul geduld en samewerking terwyl die probleem aangespreek word.

*WATER SUPPLY UPDATE: VELDDRIF AND DWARSKERSBOS AREA*

Bergrivier Municipality would like to inform residents that the West Coast District Municipality’s bulk water maintenance teams are currently on site attending to a burst water pipeline near Knorvarkie in the Velddrif area.

At this stage, there is no interruption to the overall water supply, and normal service delivery is expected to continue.

The technical teams are working continuously to complete the necessary repairs as quickly and safely as possible, with minimal disruption to consumers.

Bergrivier Municipality calls on residents in the affected area to use water sparingly during this period.

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their patience and understanding during this period.

*WATERVOORSIENING IN DIE VELDDRIF EN DWARSKERSBOS GEBIED*

Bergrivier Munisipaliteit wil inwoners in kennis stel dat die Weskus Distriksmunisipaliteit se grootmaat-water instandhoudingspanne tans op die toneel is om ’n gebarste waterpyp naby Knorvarkie in die Velddrif-omgewing, te herstel.

Tans is daar geen onderbreking in die algehele watervoorsiening nie, en normale dienslewering sal na verwagting voortgaan.

Die tegniese spanne is besig om die nodige herstelwerk so vinnig en veilig as moontlik te voltooi, met minimale ontwrigting vir verbruikers.

Die Munisipaliteit moeding inwoners in die geaffekteerde areas om water spaarsamig te gebruik gedurende hierdie periode.

Die Munisipaliteit vra omverskoning vir enige ongerief wat veroorsaak mag word en bedank inwoners vir hul geduld en begrip gedurende hierdie tyd.
