The Child and Family Welfare Society of Pietermaritzburg is proud to celebrate Ms Bongiwe Hlongwane, a dedicated social worker with 18 years of experience serving vulnerable children, families, and communities across South Africa.

Bongiwe began her social work journey with our organisation in 2008 as a Foster Care Social Worker, where her passion for child protection and family wellbeing was nurtured. Today, she has come full circle and serves as a valued member of our Board, helping to strengthen the services that support and protect children and families.

Her extensive experience, academic achievements, and unwavering commitment to social justice continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those she serves.

We are honoured to have Bongiwe as part of our Child Welfare family and thank her for her continued dedication to building stronger children, families, and communities.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, father figures, mentors, and caregivers who provide love, guidance, protection, and support to the children in their lives.

A positive father figure can make a lasting difference in a child’s development, helping to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. We honour all the men who show up each day with patience, compassion, and commitment to the well-being of children and families.

Thank you for the important role you play in nurturing stronger families and brighter futures.

Wishing all fathers and father figures a wonderful Father’s Day filled with love and appreciation.

Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the young people who stood up for justice during the Soweto Uprising of 16 June 1976. Their bravery helped shape the South Africa we know today and continues to inspire generations of young people to dream, lead, and create change. Youth Day commemorates the events of 16 June 1976, when thousands of students protested against an unequal education system and fought for their right to a better future. (Government of South Africa)

At The Pietermaritzburg Child and Family Welfare Society, we are reminded daily of the incredible potential that exists within every child and young person. As an organisation dedicated to protecting, supporting, and empowering children and families, we believe that investing in our youth is investing in the future of our communities.

This Youth Day, we celebrate the voices, talents, and aspirations of the young people we serve. We encourage them to embrace opportunities, pursue their goals, and become the leaders, innovators, and change-makers of tomorrow.

Let us continue working together to create safe environments where every child can thrive, every young person can be heard, and every dream has the opportunity to grow. Happy Youth Day, South Africa.

What made our Sip & Paint afternoon truly special was every person who purchased a ticket, invited a friend, picked up a paintbrush, shared a laugh, and supported The Pietermaritzburg Child and Family Welfare Society, thank you. Your presence made the evening a success.

It was wonderful to see people from all walks of life come together for a few hours of creativity, connection, and community. Every conversation shared, every canvas painted, and every ticket purchased contributes towards supporting vulnerable children and families in our community.

Events like these remind us that meaningful change happens when people come together with open hearts and a shared purpose.

Thank you for spending your afternoon with us, for supporting our work, and for helping us create brighter futures for the children and families we serve.

We hope you enjoyed every moment as much as we did, and we look forward to welcoming you to many more events in the future!

When children are safe, supported, and given opportunities to thrive, entire communities become stronger.

Child protection is about more than responding to abuse — it is about building environments where children and families have access to support, stability, education, care, and hope for the future. Strong families and connected communities create safer spaces where children can grow with dignity and confidence.

This Child Protection Week, let us work together to build stronger communities and brighter futures for every child.

Sometimes the smallest gestures can have the greatest impact.

A kind word, a listening ear, a warm meal, school supplies, emotional support, or simply showing a child that they are seen and valued can make a world of difference. Small acts of care can restore hope, build confidence, and remind vulnerable children that they are not alone.

This Child Protection Week, let us remember that compassion and kindness have the power to change lives.
