Russell High is a small, state owned, girls’ high school situated close to the Pietermaritzburg CBD. The magnificent school building, established in 1897, has been declared a National Monument and is “home” to just over 500 girls of all races and cultures. It is a school with an open heart and creative spirit.

Congratulations to our incredible girls who represented our school at the Love to Live Festival and achieved 1st Place in the Drama/Sketch Competition!

We are so proud of the passion, creativity and confidence our girls displayed on stage. You shone in every moment of your performance.

From the very first round, the team impressed with their creativity, teamwork and exceptional culinary skill. The standard throughout the competition was incredibly high, and every team member should be extremely proud of what they achieved. What a well-deserved victory!

The final round of our Interhouse Cooking Challenge, Chopped, saw Odell and Schriener go head-to-head in an exciting dessert showdown after Stockdale’s elimination at the end of Round 2.

The pressure in the kitchen was high as the girls were challenged to create a dessert using cream, ginger, mixed fruit trail mix and nougat as their mystery ingredients.

The finalists impressed the judges with their bold flavour combinations, both houses delivered dishes worthy of the final round.

Round 2 of our Interhouse Cooking Challenge, Chopped, turned up the heat as Odell, Stockdale, and Schriener moved forward after we said goodbye to Campbell in the first elimination round.

This week’s challenge focused on the main course and pushed the girls to showcase even more technical skill, creativity and teamwork in the kitchen. Their mystery ingredients included broccoli, cashew nuts, soy sauce, mushrooms, couscous, feta and sundried tomatoes. This was a combination that certainly tested their culinary abilities.

The girls rose to the occasion and did not disappoint. The standard remained incredibly high, making the judges’ decisions more difficult than ever. We cannot wait to see what the next round brings.

We recently held our Interhouse Cooking Challenge, Chopped, where the four house teams stepped into the kitchen ready to battle it out in a fun and fast-paced culinary competition. With each week bringing a new elimination round, the pressure was officially on.

The first challenge saw the teams tasked with creating the perfect starter using the unexpected combination of plums, jalapeños and hot dog rolls as their main ingredients. Despite the unusual ingredient list, the girls impressed everyone with their creativity, teamwork, and beautifully presented dishes.

The standard was incredibly high, leaving our judges with the very difficult task of deciding which team would be eliminated.
