YOUTH DAY 2026 COMMEMORATION | NGWATHE LOCAL MUNICIPALITY.

Today, we gathered not only to remember the heroic sacrifices of the youth of 1976, but also to celebrate the limitless potential of the young people who continue to shape the future of our nation.

The June 16 uprising remains a powerful reminder that young people have always been at the forefront of transformation, courageously challenging injustice and demanding a better South Africa. Their bravery paved the way for the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today.
In giving practical meaning to this legacy, Ngwathe Local Municipality, in partnership with the National Development Agency (NDA), proudly awarded Project Management certificates to a group of young beneficiaries who successfully completed their training programme.

This milestone represents more than a certificate—it is a gateway to opportunity, self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and meaningful participation in the economy.

Addressing the recipients , Executive Mayor Cllr Victoria de Beer-Mthombeni encouraged them to become ambassadors of hope and development within their communities, emphasizing that education, skills development, and hard work remain powerful tools for overcoming poverty, unemployment, and inequality.

As we commemorate Youth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to investing in the youth of Ngwathe, creating opportunities that unlock their potential and empower them to become leaders, innovators, and builders of a prosperous future.

The youth of 1976 fought for the right to learn. The youth of today must seize every opportunity to lead, create, and transform society.

LGBTQI+ RAINBOW PICNIC

Ngwathe Local Municipality, in partnership with Fezile Dabi District Municipality, extends its sincere gratitude to all community members, stakeholders, activists, government representatives, and members of the LGBTQI+ community who attended and participated in the Rainbow Picnic held on 13 June 2026 at Kwakwatsi Hall.

The day commenced with a vibrant and engaging awareness fun walk, aimed at promoting visibility, acceptance, and support for the LGBTQI+ community. The walk set a positive tone for the day’s activities and highlighted the importance of standing together against discrimination while advocating for equality and human rights.

The event provided a platform to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and reaffirm our collective commitment to equality, dignity, and human rights for all. Through meaningful engagements and shared experiences, participants strengthened community bonds and fostered a deeper understanding of the importance of creating safe and inclusive spaces.

As we conclude this successful gathering, we remain committed to advancing equality, fighting discrimination, and building communities where every person is respected, valued, and free to live authentically.
