Local New icon gets deserved recognition.

EJ Breaking news presentor Edgar Pietersen receives " certificate of Appreciation" for his work.

On Friday, 29th May Edgar was invited at the DFW Head Quarters in Paarl, to personally receive a well earned reward.

The DFW Ceo Daan Van Leeuwen Boomkamp personally highlighted the remarkable achievements to get the public informed, day or night.

" Edgar Pietersen, you have become one of the most trusted voices in our area. Through EJ breaking news, you report without fear and without favour, you are mostly first on scene and you never forget the people who too often go unheard. When disaster strikes our valley, it is so often your camera and voice that keeps us all informed. That we find to be journalism in the service of the people."

Edgar is an influencer in the truest sense, not because of numbers on a screen, but because he helps build our society.

Single motorvehicle accident on Sonstraal Road sadly takes a young man's life.

Paarl, 30th May 2026

The DFW Fire & Rescue NPC was called to a terrible scene, again on Sonstraal Road, whereby allegedly a young man lost control of his vehicle and was thrown out, landing in a vineyard

Upon arrival of the DFW First responders, unfortunately nothing could be done anymore as the young man already past on.

Our condolences for the family.

The Sonstraal road becomes notorious for taking lives, as the DFW teams, mostly as first on scene, could witness now for the 3rd time in a short period.

The road is dark and has treacherous deep trenches on both sides and narrow road shoulders, causing the slightest mistake to cause a spin out, often with deadly results.

DFW Fire & Rescue NPC and De Leeuwenhof Estate Hotel both joined hands to assist and support international " Sport Hero and Idol" Jason van Porppal with his visit to Paarl on the 24th.

So asked for, the DFW and " de Leeuwenhof Guesthouse" immediately offered their services when the request came for accommodation and transport.

The young man, started his journey in Uganda to promote state boarding and his efforts would find it's final destination in Cape Town. The humble young man, drew very positive attention and his efforts suddenly gathered great momentum .

His second last stop would be Paarl and we all did make a super happening come true and showed real Paarl enthusiasm and support. The local population were present in huge numbers and all went very well.

The young hero received a warm meal, a hot shower and a warm bed and was admired and extra pampered by the Leeuwenhof staff, to gain strength for the final stretch to Capetown.

What a Weekend!

We thank all our local partners and media specialists to so suddenly and spontaneously come on board and help bring this happening of joy and light to the communities.

DFW Trucks get full tune up service offered by Paarl local specialists.

Paarl, 26th May 2026

The DFW Fire & Rescue NPC received a welcoming invitation by a Paarl Tuning Specialist, to have the big 4x4 trucks serviced.

The 4x4 trucks had a very rough season and could use some extra tender and care. Working under extreme circumstances dry, hot and dusty and idling engines for hrs at a time, cause extra wear and tare.

After the full checkup and maintenance done, the trucks are ready to go.

We thank "Tuned to Race" Triangle park Paarl for the great gesture.

This is happening too often...we urge the community to call inmediately and give the right information.
Often we hear people screaming the unreadable address or their info does not make sense at all or they give half of the info and hang up and when we then try call back, nobody picks up.

We could do so much more, if only the awareness and willingness to act was more stimulated.
