ACVV House Triomf (The Children's Home) is an institution that initially arose to care for street children . The children's home was later registered in 1991 as a non-profit organization (NPO). Although the Home initially cared for street children, it is no longer a haven for street children. The Children's Home is registered at the Department of Social Development as a Child and Youth Care Centre
and thus receive a monthly basic subsidy per child from the Government. This allowance does not provide the total needed to cover the expenses as well as the developmental needs of each child and the Home depends on contributions and fund-raising projects. According to the conditions of registration the Home may accommodate only children who have been placed here by an order of the Childrens Court. The children are usually neglected and come from poor home conditions. Social workers from different organizations usually investigate cases of child neglect, which eventually lead to such a court order. The Children's Home is currently registered to accommodate only 30 children between the ages of 8 and 18 years. The Children's House is home to 21 boys between the ages of 8-18 years. The children are from the Southern Cape, Little Karoo and Great Karoo, which includes the following towns : Heidelberg, Albertinia George, Plettenberg Bay, Oudtshoorn, Ladismith, Dysselsdorp and Beaufort West. The rooms in the children's home is divided into two wings, one wing houses the smaller boys and the other wing the older children. The ultimate goal of removing children is always to provide contact between parents and the children . The assistance of the social workers of the organizations that referred the children is therefore very important. House Triomf maintain an open door policy and parents are encouraged to visit their children. Consistent rules apply to have these visits orderly. At the end of each month we have a party for the children who had birthdays during that month. A birthday cake and treats are provided. There are regularly organized excursions to various places e.g. the Ostrich Farm, Cango Caves, Crocodile Farm etc. The children regularly receive pocket money which is linked to discipline and behavior. Three times per week rewards are issued after completion of development programs. Weekends there is a braai for them and DVDs can be watched for entertainment. Children who reach the age of 18 must be inserted in society, whether at home or family.
