Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) ruled that the officials are liable for the municipality’s unauthorised, irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure

The former municipal officials were ordered by the SCA to pay R7.6 million with interest plus legal costs.

The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has opportunities for (22) suitably qualified and competent Social Auxiliary Workers to provide assistance and support to social workers with the promotion of social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance social well-being under the guidance and supervision of the social worker.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 1: Grade 10 plus completion of the learnership to allow registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as Social Auxiliary Worker; Registration with the SACSSP as Social Auxiliary Worker; A valid code B driving licence.

Key Performance Areas: Provide assistance and support to social workers with the rendering of a social work service with regard to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families and communities through the relevant departmental programmes; Assist social workers to attend to any other matters that could result in, or stem from, social instability in any form; Continuous professional development; Perform administrative support functions in support of social workers as required of the job.

Remuneration

Grade 1: R 182 913 – R 207 024 per annum;
Grade 2: R 215 442 – R 245 847 per annum;
Grade 3: R 255 933- R 321 741 per annum (as prescribed by OSD)

Best run Municipalities
South African municipalities continue to show poor audit results, but 34 received the best possible finding from the Auditor General of South Africa (AG).

In the most recent report on Local Government Audit Outcomes for 2022-23, the AG said that government’s poor audit outcomes continued, with only 34 (13%) of municipalities obtaining clean audits.

“Meaningful improvement over the term of the new administration was not evident – while 45 municipalities have improved their audit outcomes since 2020-21 (the last year of the previous administration), 36 have regressed,” said the AG.
