PRIVATE ACCOMMODATION EXCEPTION EVICTION.

Revolutionary Greetings,

PASMA has noted with serious concern that a number of students affected by NSFAS exceptions are now facing possible eviction from their private accommodations due to unpaid rent caused by NSFAS exceptions.

We understand the difficult situation students are currently experiencing, especially those whose funding is still under investigation or awaiting NSFAS resolution. No student should be left vulnerable while these administrative processes are still being addressed.

We therefore request all students residing in private accommodations who have received NSFAS exceptions and are currently being threatened with eviction by landlords to urgently fill in their details on the link below so that we may compile affected cases and escalate the matter accordingly.

Please ensure that your information is submitted accurately by Sunday the 24th of May 2026.

PASMA remains committed to defending the rights and dignity of students and will continue engaging relevant stakeholders to seek urgent intervention and relief for affected students.

PASMA Statement on NSFAS Exceptions
20 May 2026

Revolutionary Greetings CPUT Students,

As PASMA, we are aware of the ongoing challenges affecting students who have been defunded or placed under NSFAS exceptions for the 2026 academic year. We understand the frustration, uncertainty, and emotional distress this situation has caused among affected students.

Following engagements and communication received regarding the exceptions, it has been confirmed that there are currently 351 students affected by NSFAS exceptions across different categories. These exceptions have already been escalated to NSFAS for intervention and resolution.

The breakdown is as follows:
6 students — Re-applied Before Migration which FAO is awaiting NSFAS resolution.
1 student — UNI Highest Level of Qualification Achieved which FAO is awaiting NSFAS resolution.
90 students — N+ Investigation which FAO is awaiting NSFAS clarification and final outcome.
175 students — Gap Investigation which FAO is awaiting guidance from the NSFAS Acting COO to ensure proper implementation across institutions.
79 students — Duplicate Registration which students are required to confirm the institution at which they are currently enrolled before NSFAS can finalise the process.

As PASMA, we would also like to inform students that these matters were discussed during the NSFAS regional workshop with FAO held on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, where institutions raised concerns and requested urgent intervention regarding these exceptions.

At this stage, FAO is still awaiting final guidance and resolution from NSFAS on the majority of these matters. We therefore urge affected students to remain patient while engagements continue.

PASMA remains committed to fighting for students and ensuring that no academically deserving student is unfairly prejudiced due to administrative delays or unresolved NSFAS processes. We will continue to provide updates and push for urgent intervention until all affected students are funded again.

Yours in Leadership,
PASMA CPUT

Revolutionary greetings, Comrades and Students of Mowbray Campus,

Today, 14 May 2026, students convened at the Mass Meeting to deliberate on management’s proposal to extend Teaching Practice to 8 weeks with no break.

After robust engagement where students voiced their views, concerns, and lived experiences, the following resolutions were adopted:

Rejecting of the 8-week continuous Teaching Practice proposal. As students from Mowbray campus, we unanimously reject the proposal to run Teaching Practice for 8 weeks without a break.

Teaching Practice must remain in 2 sessions with a break in between. a split structure is necessary to allow for reflection, preparation, and transition, especially for departments working across different grades per session. An 8-week block with no break makes this transition difficult and compromises the quality of training.

The proposal amounts to unpaid labour, running 8 weeks continuously without a break subjects students to labour with no pay and no relief. This is exploitative and unacceptable.

Additionally, it is unfair to extend the period with no provision for feedback and review between sessions. Student development and assessment require a structured break for reflection and improvement.

Last but not least, we demand urgent attention to the Teaching Practice allowance submission. The financial burden placed on students during Teaching Practice remains unresolved. Transport, teaching resources, and other related costs continue to be carried by students without any Teaching Practice allowance. We demand urgent attention and a concrete response to the allowance proposal.

As PASMA, SASCO, SADTUSC and EFFYC, we will formally submit these resolutions to management and demand an urgent meeting to address the matter. We remain committed to defending students’ rights and ensuring that Teaching Practice serves learning, not exploitation.

We thank all students who attended and made their voices heard. The struggle for dignified and fair learning conditions continues.

Yours in Leadership,
Mowbray Campus Structures

Revolutionary greetings sons and daughters of the stolen land, we hope this communique finds you in well spirits.

PASMA would like to provide an update on the current status of supervisor allocation.

We have engaged with the relevant academic departments on this matter. Regarding Leadership and Management, as well as Business Studies, Mr. Oliver has confirmed that students have been allocated supervisors. He has also committed to communicating with the respective supervisors to ensure that they begin engaging with students as soon as possible.
With respect to Inclusive Education, we are currently awaiting an updated list of students who have not yet been allocated supervisors from Dr. Buthelezi. This remains the only outstanding group, and we are actively working with the Head of Department to secure supervisor allocations. Progress in this area is dependent on receiving the updated information from the Inclusive Education lecturers.

Additionally, PASMA notes that the matter concerning IsiXhosa FAL students who did not have a lecturer has now been addressed. The appointment of Mr. Gcingca has been approved, and the necessary administrative processes, including the creation of his network account and access to institutional platforms, have been completed to ensure that he can begin engaging with students.

PASMA remains committed to ensuring that all postgraduate students receive the necessary academic support and will continue to follow up until this matter is fully resolved.

We appreciate your patience and encourage students to remain in contact for further updates.

Yours in Leadership,
PASMA Mowbray
