Vandag is drie van ons Raadslede, Speaker Venolea Fortuin, OB Cliffie Bayman en Raadsheer Nicolaas Booisen 15 jaar in die tuig om hul gemeenskappe te dien. Dit is drie termyne.

Dit is ‘n gekombineerder 45 jaar ondervinding in Plaaslike Regering.

Ontslape Raadslid Erika Meyer sou ook vandag 15 jaar in die tuig gewees het.

Ons bedank die aktiviste wat as Raadslede hul gemeenskappe dien!

DA Mossel Bay Constituency Statement

We express our deep concern and dismay at the current xenophobic attacks where people have been murdered, homes burned, and families displaced. These acts are a direct violation of the values of our democracy and the rights guaranteed to every person under the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

The Constituency is deeply grateful to the communities who are assisting victims in various ways. The DA Mossel Bay’s position is clear: all people who lawfully reside in South Africa enjoy protection under the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (1996).

The DA’s policy emphasizes that South Africa must be an inclusive society where dignity, equality, and freedom form the foundation. The DA rejects all forms of discrimination and xenophobia, and believes that the state and communities must work together to ensure safety, justice, and opportunity for all.

We call on the National Government and the South African Police Service (SAPS) to deal more effectively with immigration and ensure that unlawful immigrants are repatriated in accordance with the law. This must be done with respect for human dignity and in line with the Constitution and international obligations.

At present, various departments of the Mossel Bay Municipality, the Western Cape Government, SAPS, and the Diplomatic Corps are handling this crisis. The DA Mossel Bay wishes to thank the South African Police Service, Western Cape Government Minister Jaco Londt, the Department of Social Development, non-governmental organizations, and municipal officials for their incredible contribution and work during this time.

DA Mosselbaai Kiesafdeling Verklaring

Ons spreek ons misnoë uit oor die huidige xenofobiese aanvalle waar mense vermoor, huise afgebrand en verplaas word. Hierdie dade is ’n direkte skending van die waardes van ons demokrasie en die regte wat elke persoon ingevolge die Grondwet geniet.

Die Kiesafdeling is baie dankbaar vir die gemeenskappe wat die slagoffers bystaan op verskeie maniere. Die DA Mosselbaai se posisie is duidelik: alle mense wat wettig in Suid-Afrika woon, geniet beskerming onder die Grondwet van die Republiek van Suid-Afrika (1996).

Die DA se beleid beklemtoon dat Suid-Afrika ’n inklusiewe samelewing moet wees waar menswaardigheid, gelykheid en vryheid die grondslag vorm. Die DA verwerp alle vorme van diskriminasie en xenofobie, en glo dat die staat en gemeenskappe saam moet werk om veiligheid, geregtigheid en geleenthede vir almal te verseker.

Ons doen ’n beroep op die Nasionale Regering en SAPD om meer doeltreffend met immigrasie te handel en te verseker dat onwettige immigrante volgens die wetlike prosesse gerepatrieer word. Dit moet geskied met respek vir menswaardigheid en in ooreenstemming met die Grondwet en internasionale verpligtinge.

Op die oomblik hanteer verskeie departemente van Mosselbaai Munisipaliteit, die Wes-Kaapse Regering, SAPD en die Diplomatieke Korps hierdie krisis. Die DA Mosselbaai wil die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens, Wes-Kaapse Regering se Minister Jaco Londt, die Departement van Gemeenskaplike Ontwikkeling, nie-plaaslike regeringsorganisasies en munisipale amptenare bedank vir hul ongelooflike bydrae en werk gedurende hierdie tyd.
