🌱 What if a single seed could tell a story of hope, growth, and potential?

This Youth Day 2026, Mossel Bay APD celebrates the value, ability, and potential of every young person.

Our Day Care children brought energy, colour, and joy to a Colour Run before planting seeds that will one day grow into something beautiful. At the same time, participants at our Adult Day Care Centre began planting a vegetable garden, taking another step towards learning, independence, and personal growth.

These activities may seem simple, but they carry a powerful message: when people are given opportunities, support, and encouragement, they can grow beyond expectations.

Just as these seeds need care, patience, and time to flourish, so do the people who plant them.

Together with the Mossel Bay community, we continue to create opportunities where people with disabilities can discover their strengths, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

🌱 As this plant grows, so do I.

🌱 Growing Skills, Confidence and Independence 🌱

Our Adult Care group at Mossel Bay APD in Grootbrak recently participated in a wonderful self-development activity focused on gardening and life skills.

As part of the activity, participants learned how to prepare seed trays, work with soil, plant seeds correctly, and care for young seedlings that will eventually become part of our vegetable garden.

The session was not only about planting vegetables, but also about learning patience, responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of nurturing something from the very beginning.

Hands-on activities such as gardening provide many benefits for persons with disabilities. They encourage independence, improve concentration, develop fine motor skills, promote physical activity, and create opportunities for social interaction.

Most importantly, they help build confidence as participants see the results of their efforts grow over time.
At Mossel Bay APD, we believe that every person deserves opportunities to learn, develop new skills, and participate meaningfully in their community.

Through activities like these, we continue to create an environment where our members can grow, learn, and thrive.

We are proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by everyone who took part in this activity. We look forward to watching these seeds grow into a flourishing vegetable garden that will serve as a reminder of what can be achieved through learning, teamwork, and perseverance. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Your support helps us continue providing programmes and activities that empower persons with disabilities and promote inclusion within our community.

An induction loop is a special type of sound system for use by people using hearing devices. The loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to β€˜T’ (Telecoil) setting.

It consists of a microphone to pick up the spoken word; an amplifier which processes the signal which is then sent through the final piece; the loop cable, a wire placed around the perimeter of a specific area i.e. a meeting room, a church etc. to act as an antenna that radiates the magnetic signal to the hearing aid.

How does an induction loop work?
1. Person speaks into a microphone
2. Current is amplified and sent to a magnetic cable loop surrounding the listeners, creating a zone.
3. A magnetic field delivers the amplified, high-quality signal to the listener’s hearing aid.

Induction loops come in many sizes, from ones made for large spaces to small ones that fit around one's neck.

ID: A branded image showing a diagram of an induction loop system in a meeting room, with pictogram instructions on how to use along the bottom. In the top left corner is the international sign (a bright blue square containing a white ear with a white stripe diagonally through it, and a T in the corner) indicating that the venue is looped. Across the top in a light blue block is "Assistive devices" in dark blue text. At the bottom to the left is NCPD's logo and to the right is white text "Induction loop system" on a light blue stripe, with a white strip containing all NCPD project logos below that.

’n Tafel waar elke jongmens welkom is.

🌱 What happens when children learn by getting their hands dirty? Growth begins in more ways than one.

This week, the children at Mossel Bay Association of and for Persons with Disabilities – ILitha Lethu Day Care Centre explored Self-Development through gardening. They learned to work with soil, plant seeds, and water them with care.

Through this hands-on activity, the children discovered the value of patience, responsibility, and teamwork. Gardening gave them the opportunity to connect with nature while building practical skills and confidence.

Small seeds were planted, but important lessons were grown. πŸŒΏπŸ’§

For many persons with disabilities, accessing public spaces is still a daily challenge.

Uneven pavements, stairs without ramps, inaccessible entrances, and limited parking continue to exclude many from fully participating in everyday life.

Accessibility is not a convenienceβ€”it is a necessity. Public spaces should be designed for everyone, ensuring dignity, independence, and equal access for all.

An inclusive community begins with accessible spaces.
