WORLD TB DAY 2026, YES! WE CAN END TB

Today, 24 March 2026, communities across the globe come together to mark World Tuberculosis Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB) and strengthening efforts to end the disease.

This important day traces back to 1882, when Robert Koch discovered the bacterium that causes TB , a breakthrough that changed the course of medical history.

This year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB!”, is a strong reminder that ending TB is within reach, but only if we work together. It highlights the importance of early testing, proper treatment, and supporting those affected.

Although TB is preventable and curable, it continues to affect millions of people every year. In South Africa, the day is being observed through community outreach programmes, health education, and screening campaigns aimed at encouraging people to know their status and seek treatment early.

World TB Day is more than just a date on the calendar, it is a call for action. By raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting one another, communities can play a vital role in the fight against TB.

Together, we can end TB.

📍 Rustenburg | World TB Day Build-Up Activities

Community action is at the heart of the fight against tuberculosis. As part of the World TB Day build-up activities, the Peeletso Sechabeng Development continues to play a vital role in raising awareness and mobilising communities in Rustenburg.

Through community outreach initiatives, the organisation is engaging residents on the importance of TB prevention, early screening, treatment adherence, and reducing stigma. These activities also provide an opportunity for community members to receive health information, ask questions, and access support services.

Local organisations and youth-focused organisations such as Teach Lead Mentor Foundation are also contributing to the awareness drive by promoting messages around HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence awareness, demonstrating the importance of integrated community responses to health challenges.

As we approach World TB Day on 24 March, these grassroots efforts remind us that ending TB requires collective action from communities, civil society, and government working together.

Yes! You and I can end TB.
