The MEC for Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, Mr Wessels Morweng, today (September 16) received a comprehensive briefing from the company that has been contracted to organise Mahika Mahikeng, Big Daddy Events.
The MEC expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the work done so far and the level of readiness for the event.

Mahika Mahikeng is scheduled for December 3 (Gospel music), December 4 (Youth Festival) and December 6 (Jazz Festival).

Big names such as Scorpion Kings, Kabza Da Small, Dumi Mkokstad and Ringo Madlingozi have been confirmed for the various days of the three-day Festival. The official media launch will be held on October 6 in Hartebeesport Dam where more announcements will be made.

A flagship programme of the Department, Mahika Mahikeng has been successful over the years, with significant injection into the North West economy and opportunities for artists across the Province through the actual Festival and the build-up activations.

In celebration of Heritage month,the Northwest Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation (ACSR) today(15 September 2026)hosted the Opening and handover of Matloding Cultural Village at Ratlou Local Municipality in Matloding Village.

The Cultural Village was developed to give Matloding a dedicated space to celebrate its heritage,educate the future generation about its traditions and support local economic opportunities.

Exhibitors were in attendance showcasing arts and crafts and items reflecting the community's history and culture.

The event featured compelling performances by local traditional artists showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Community of Matloding.

The Opening of Matloding Cultural Village and handover is currently underway today (15 September 2026)at Ratlou Municipality in Matloding.

The event kicked off with Gender Based Violence(GBV) walk led by MEC for the Department of Arts,Culture Sports and Recreation(ACSR),Mr Wessels Morweng.

The Gbv walk is aimed at encouraging victims and survivors to speak out and seek help and support. It further seeks to give attention to the recent killings of women in the country.
