STATEMENT OF THE YCLSA ON JOZINI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

The Young Communist League of South Africa [YCLSA], in Far North District, is dismayed by the continuous mismanagement of the Jozini Local Municipal budget.
This is yet another disturbing illustration of the Inkatha Freedom Party’s malfeasance in every municipality where they govern, which are riddled with fraud, corruption, and maladministration.
This Local Municipality, led by parasites – amongst whom is the Mayor - has not only officially opened a gravel road worth R4.7 million a few months ago, but they also announced that they will assist Grade 12 learners with R3 million in their upcoming Boot Camp, which, when we conducted our own investigation, as the YCLSA from the 60 High School in this municipality, we found that the municipality’s assistance does not even announce to R200 000.
It is now blatantly clear that the IFP-led municipality has direct intentions to utilize the municipal budget for their own campaign towards the upcoming 2024 General Elections, as they did in 2021 for their campaign and 2022 for their celebrations post the elections.
As the YCLSA, we call upon the department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs [COGTA] to investigate the apparent malfeasance in this municipality, and further call on other progressive forces to join hands in saving the people of Jozini from this rot.
