MINISTER OF JUSTICE TO HOST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON NATIONAL WILLS WEEK IN BUSHBUCKRIDGE, MPUMALANGA

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Ms. Mmamoloko Kubayi, in partnership with the Law Society of South Africa and other participating stakeholders, will launch National Wills Week at a community engagement event in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, on 14 September 2026.

National Wills Week, observed annually in September, provides members of the public with information on the importance of having a valid Will and assistance with drafting one. The campaign also raises awareness of available legal services and promotes access to support from legal practitioners.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve access to justice, particularly for communities that may not ordinarily be able to access private legal assistance. It also creates awareness of the role of the Master of the High Court in the administration of deceased estates.

Service desks will be established at Master of the High Court offices across all provinces, with support from legal practitioners and private-practice attorneys. Members of the public will receive free assistance to draft Wills, helping to ensure that their estates are administered in accordance with their wishes after death.

[R**E PREVENTION, COMMERCIAL CRIME AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS AMPLIFIED THROUGH COMMUNITY RADIO OUTREACHES IN MPUMALANGA]

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga continues to strengthen crime prevention and community awareness through educational programmes conducted on community radio stations across the province.

As part of these ongoing initiatives, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe from Provincial Corporate Communication and Liaison, together with Sergeant Merlyn Mmonwa from Bushbuckridge SAPS and Constable Mkansi from Calcutta SAPS, participated in a live radio discussion on BBR Community Radio in the Bushbuckridge area.

The engagement focused on crimes and social challenges affecting communities, including r**e and other sexual offences, Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), housebreaking, shoplifting, assault, gangsterism, bullying and commercial crimes.

Listeners were also educated on the importance of protecting stokvel savings, ensuring compliance by liquor outlets with relevant legislation, and reporting incidents of r**e, domestic violence and other forms of abuse without delay.

The SAPS members further addressed commercial crimes such as fraud, scams, identity theft and cyber-related offences. Community members were urged to protect their personal and banking information, remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes and verify the legitimacy of financial transactions, requests and online offers before responding.

The importance of community participation in crime prevention was also emphasised. Members of the public were encouraged to work closely with SAPS, Community Policing Forums (CPFs), community leaders and other stakeholders to address crime and build safer communities.

Community members were further encouraged to make use of the Rate My SAPS platform and the suggestion boxes available at their nearest police stations to provide feedback, raise concerns and make suggestions aimed at improving SAPS service delivery.

SAPS in Mpumalanga reiterates that preventing r**e, GBVF, commercial crime and other serious offences requires a collective effort. Communities are encouraged to support victims, report criminal activities promptly and assist the police with information that can help prevent and solve crime.

🚨 JUST IN | FATAL CRASH

Eight people have tragically lost their lives following a head-on collision involving two sedans on the N17 between Davel and Ermelo, Mpumalanga, in the early hours of this morning.Gert Sibande District Municipality

Seven occupants were travelling in a Toyota Corolla, while one person was travelling in a VW sedan. Two of the deceased are minors.

According to Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

*TWO FOREIGN NATIONALS ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF DAGGA WORTH R1 MILLION IN MORGENZON*

*Nelspruit: 11 September 2026* -On Thursday, 10 September 2026 at about 08:30, members from SAPS in Morgenzon and the Secunda Flying Squad arrested two foreign nationals aged 30 and 40 on the R39 Road in Morgenzon.

The members were conducting a crime combating operation in the Morgenzon Policing precinct when they spotted a white Volkswagen Golf with Mpumalanga registration number. They stopped and searched the vehicle and found 21 bags containing dagga.

It was during this time when both suspects were arrested and the weight of the dagga is about 180 kilograms with an estimated street value of about R1 Million.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are foreign nationals. Police are working collaboratively with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the suspects in the country.

The dagga was confiscated for further investigation.

The suspects are expected to appear at Standerton Magistrate's Court in due course, facing charges of dealing in dagga.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, thanked the members for their teamwork and warned criminals that in Mpumalanga, police will not rest until it is a crime-free province.
