This is a milestone that transforms Mnguni and other beneficiaries from residents into permanent homeowners.

What was once just a house allocated by government is now a fully-owned asset, a secure inheritance, and a foundation for generational. Mnguni expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Department describing the receipt of his title deed as a profound assurance that the house truly belongs to him. It secures his family’s future, offering protection against uncertainty and affirming his rightful place as a homeowner.

[ACKNOWLEDGE] - It was a historic day for the Siligane Royal family outside Kabokweni in the City of Mbombela, Mpumalanga. The day marks the beginning of change and restores the dignity of the Lukhele family. The Siligane Traditional Community had pursued the restoration and recognition of its traditional leadership for many years, until the recognition of their chieftaincy. Historical records indicate that despite that pursuit, the community continued to preserve its identity, cultural practices and traditional structures.

Recently recognised Inkhosi Mandla Lukhele described the developments as a significant milestone for the Siligane Royal Family and expressed appreciation to government and traditional leadership structures for their role in bringing the long-standing matter to its finality.

As part of his responsibilities, Inkhosi Lukhele will participate in the activities of the Provincial and Local House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders. This also include, amongst others participation and engagements between government and traditional leaders in finding lasting solutions for socio-economic challenges for rural communities.

[CHIEF] - Government continues to honour and acknowledge the importance of traditional leaders in communty development. Today, a certificate of recognition was issued to Inkhosi Mandla Justice Lukhele as the legitimate Siligane Lukhele Senior Traditional Leader of the Siligane Traditional Community outside Kabokweni in the City of Mbombela, Mpumalanga.

The issuance of the certificate follows lengthy consultations between the Siligane Royal Family and the Mpumalanga Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (MPHTKL) in terms of Section 3(6) of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act. This aimed at bringing about stability in the Siligane Traditional community and to allow Inkhosi Lukhele to participate in the establishment of a Traditional Council in line with the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act 3 of 2019.

The certificate is a legal stamp of approval needed to integrate traditional leadership into the state apparatus. It further confirms that the Chief has the authority to govern their jurisdiction using customary and applicable constitutional laws, partner with local municipalities to drive socio-economic development and land management in rural areas and receive state resources and administrative support allotted to recognized traditional councils.

Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) MEC, Mr Speed Mashilo issued the certificate and handed over a brand new vehicle as part of government's stance to strengthen collaboration with traditional leadership as front runners of service delivery, ambassadors of peace and custodians of conflict resolution in communities that fall under their leadership.

[OWN] - Nearly 200 title deeds have been handed over to the community of Tokologo (Wards 26 & 28) residents in Middelburt, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Mpumalanga. This feat was delivered under theTitle Deeds Friday Campaign as part of government’s plan to eradicate title deeds distribution backlog and to issue pre-and post-1994 outstanding title deeds to government subsidised housing beneficiaries.

The community has been reminded of the importance of a title deed as a legal document of property ownership. Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Thembi Simelane outlined that the department has set a 80 000 target for the Medium-Term Development Plan (2024 - 2029) of title deeds to be issued to rightful beneficiaries.

[CELEBRATE] - Cultural ceremonies remain key in preserving tradition and heritage.This as the Mathibela Traditional Council hosted its annual cultural day (Ummemo) today, 05 September 2006 at Oakley in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Mpumalanga. Amongst other issues, cultural teachings in grooming the youth, collaboration between Amakhosi and government in fighting crime, the importance of initiation (Ingoma), the upcoming elections and gun violence, panctuated the ceremony.

Gracing the occasion, Former Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula reminded the community of the importance of preserving culture, honoring traditional leaders and the role that is played by Amakhosi in government and service delivery. "Ubukhosi is not a one man thing. Amakhosi need to work hand in hand with their communities and government", stated Mbalula.

Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-san Leaders (MPHTKL) Chairperson, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena warned against gender based violence and reminded the community about the importance of voting during this upcoming elections. Further, CONTRALESA Secretary General, Mr Zolani Mkiva outlined that all the Provinces that are not supporting Amakhosi need to come and learn from Mpumalanga as government is doing exceptionally well in this regard.

This significant occasion ensures that these families are no longer tenants of the state but homeowners, securing their rights and futures. Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Thembi Simelane, together with Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) MEC, Mr Speed Mashilo joined the households to mark a significant milestone for officially making government subsidised housing beneficiaries permanent homeowners.

[INTEGRATE] - Government is accelerating human settlements delivery whilst ensuring investment that translates into dignified, integrated and sustainable communities. The Reabota Community Residential Units (CRU) project in Mhluzi, Steve Tshwete Local Municipality is making significant progress, with approximately 120 units being developed to provide much-needed quality rental accommodation for residents. Sitting at 90% completion, this progress demonstrates government’s commitment to accelerating human settlements delivery and creating dignified living environments for communities.

The project gives practical meaning to housing needs by delivering homes that respond to residents' accommodation demands. “Our focus is on accelerating delivery, completing projects and ensuring that communities experience the impact of government programmes,” stressed MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Speed Mashilo.

The remaining work includes paving and plumbing, scheduled to be completed by the end of the 2026/27 financial year. Once completed, the project will contribute towards addressing the demand for affordable rental accommodation while improving the overall living conditions and quality of life for beneficiaries in Mhluzi. Today, the Legislature's Portfolio Committee on CoGHSTA visited the project to assess progress as part of the week-long Taking the Legislature to the People within the locality.
