Two days pre Taking Legislature to the people session started today at Steve Tshwete Local Municipality in Nkangala District.

This is a crucial oversight phase prior the main TLP session which is to be hosted in due course. Earlier today the Health portfolio committee led by Ms Thulisile Khoza(MPL) visited the Middelburg Gate Clinic, which is an eight hour clinic based in Middleburg Town ward 12. Initially it was a blood bank then converted into a clinic in 1996. Its annual headcount is currently at 14900.

The Portfolio Commiittee on Health was welcomed by Department of Health Head, Dr LK Ndlovu together with the Senior Management from Provincial, District as well as Sub District Office. Health Portfolio Commiittee tabled their objective for an oversight visit as solely to assess the standard of healthcare services provided to the public.

The clinic profile was presented & deliberated on by the entire entourage. Essential matters especially on staff establishment, Infrastructure, medicine availability, EMS response time, complaints management system were deliberated on in good faith so as to ensure that the quality of health services provided to the public is of expected standard and not being compromised along the way.

The session will wrap up tomorrow with a public hearing session scheduled from 9:00am at OR Tambo Hall in Mhluzi township.

On 25 June 2026, the Mpumalanga Department of Health hosted a successful community dialogue at Silobela Community Hall in Carolina, in observance of Youth Month, providing young people with a platform to discuss pertinent issues, including teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, sexually transmitted infections, immunization, mental health awareness, and career choices. This effort aims to empower individuals to take charge of their health and well-being and shift societal behaviors for good health outcomes.

The Mpumalanga College of Nursing , under the Mpumalanga Department of Health, hosted all ten Public Nursing Colleges (including SAMHS) in South Africa at Whiteriver, just outside Mbombela, today, 24 June 2026.

These colleges form the College Principals and Academic Staff of South Africa (CPASSA). They held an extended executive meeting to enhance excellence in nursing education and effective leadership in public nursing colleges in South Africa.

Dr TP Skakane, Principal of Mpumalanga College of Nursing, acknowledged guests from the provincial office, Ms DC Mdluli, Deputy Director General for Clinical Health Services, who welcomed the delegation, and Dr LK. Ndhlovu, Head of Department, who gave a keynote address, and DENOSA representatives.

Other distinguished speakers included Dr Matandela, Chief Nursing Officer, Dr K Marais, Director of Nursing Education and Training, both from the National Department of Health, and Dr SZ Mthembu, the Principal of KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.

Various speakers emphasised the mission of CPASSA, which is committed to providing innovative leadership, governance advocacy and collaboration towards sustainable public nursing education colleges.

Today's agenda for discussion included the generic organogram for public nursing colleges, an update on Research Capacity Building for Nurse Educators, National Tertiary Services Grant (NTSG) to appoint retired nurses to offer Postgraduate Diploma programs, and the standardisation of simulation laboratories for nursing programs.

The meeting further engaged through commissions to finalise the draft strategic plan to implement the CPASSA strategic goals.
The two-day sessions will continue tomorrow, 25 June 2026, to finalise the strategic plan and College principals' reports on implementation of the new qualifications.

Rob Ferreira Hospital Marks Milestone in Cervical Cancer Fight.

Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela conducted 48 cervical cancer screening and treatment procedures, including Colposcopy, LLETZ, VIA, and Thermal Ablation, as part of a provincial initiative to strengthen cervical cancer prevention and treatment services.

The programme, supported through virtual training and mentorship led by Dr B. Magagula, enhanced the skills of doctors from across the province. According to Mr William Mntambo, Provincial Manager for Women’s Health, the initiative promotes critical skills transfer and strengthens the province’s response to cervical cancer.

This achievement contributes towards the World Health Organization’s 90-70-90 targets for eliminating cervical cancer by 2030, which aim to ensure that 90% of girls are vaccinated against HPV, 70% of women are screened for cervical cancer, and 90% of women diagnosed with cervical disease receive appropriate treatment. The initiative demonstrates Mpumalanga’s commitment to improving women’s health outcomes through expanded access to screening and treatment services.

To commemorate Youth Month, the Department of Health in Nkangala District planned and hosted youth-focused activities, focusing on bringing back community members who had lost the courage to continue their medication and clinic visits.

The event was held at Vukezenzele Sports Ground in Delpark, Victor Khanye Local Municipality. Activities included a 3km walk, various games, aerobics, health talks, and sports.

The main objective was to promote healthy and active living, convey messages on disease prevention, and encourage community members to take charge of their well-being by testing and knowing their health status.

Department of Health's Mental Health program commemorated the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Thembalethu in Schomansdal,Nkomazi Local Municipality.

All speakers emphasized the importance of breaking down harmful stigma to encourage people to seek professional help and promote overall emotional well-being.

Stakeholders and departments such as NICRO, Social Development, South Africa Police Services, and the Department of Correctional Services participated in this program.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health's Human Resources Chief Directorate held its workshop for Human Resource Management under the theme: Strengthening Service Delivery, Workforce Efficiency, Training Capacity, and Excellence.

The workshop commenced on June 17 and will conclude on June 19, 2026, at Nutting House in Mbombela.

In attendance are Chief Executive Officers of health facilities, Clinical, Corporate, and HR Managers.

The expected outputs include reflecting on working hours for service delivery, consulting on different models of care, understanding commuted overtime and implementation challenges, and understanding the role of the Regional Training Centre.

The workshop aims to strengthen ongoing efforts to align Human Resources for Health with service delivery needs.

Mr. JR Nkosi, Chief Director: HR Management & Development, led the Human Resource Strategy Workshop. Key focus areas include HR Strategy Readiness 2030, policy implementation, HR effectiveness, structure and accountability, and people systems.

When addressing the gathering, Mr. Nkosi said, "This workshop is not about paperwork. It's about building HR systems that keep clinics open 24/7, reduce burnout, and protect both staff and patients. Effective HR is the backbone of effective healthcare. When we get HR right, service delivery gets right.

" The meeting will bring about key outcomes and innovations to shape the future of the
Department's Human Resource Management. This workshop matters for service delivery because the goal is to align Health HR with the 2030 National Development Plan so that every patient gets care from supported, skilled, and motivated staff.
