MTPA STRENGTHENS CONSERVATION LEADERSHIP ACROSS ITS NATURE RESERVES
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), in partnership with Leadership for Conservation, WeWild Africa and the Shakira Foundation, is strengthening the capacity of Reserve Managers and staff through a six-month conservation leadership and coaching programme.
The programme is being implemented across eight selected MTPA-managed nature reserves and focuses on strengthening leadership and conservation management skills to effectively address challenges such as wildlife poaching, unauthorised harvesting of plants in protected areas and the enforcement of conservation laws.
This initiative forms part of MTPA’s ongoing commitment to developing skilled conservation professionals, strengthening the management of protected areas and advancing sustainable biodiversity conservation in Mpumalanga.
Plans are underway to extend the programme to other MTPA-managed nature reserves.
