Borrow-Pit Issue is One of the Challenges Continuing to Impact Infrastructure Development.

Borrow-pit issues was highlighted as a serious challenge affecting infrastructure development, with contractors raising the concern during an engagement held at Maggie Tsiu-Resha.

The purpose of the session was to strengthen the working relationship between the Municipality, municipal and service providers, with the aim of improving service delivery and accelerating infrastructure development across Matatiele.

Mayor Patrick Stuurman emphasised that physical presence on project sites is non-negotiable, as it ensures quality workmanship, accountability and timely delivery of projects.

The engagement reaffirms Council’s commitment to transparent governance, accountable service delivery and quality infrastructure for the people of Matatiele.

PUBLIC NOTICE: MUNICIPAL OPERATIONS DURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Matatiele Local Municipality advises members of the public that, due to the snow and wet weather conditions, municipal offices are currently operating with skeleton staff, mainly those providing essential services.

Members of the public who wish to visit municipal offices are advised that normal municipal services will resume tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 12 August 2026.

As adverse weather conditions persist, members of the public are urged to exercise caution when travelling and prioritise their safety.

As We Celebrated Women’s Day today, Jubilee Pharmacy hosted a Matatiele Women’s Day Race at the North End Stadium. We Celebrated Strength, Health and Sisterhood This Women’s Day

What a beautiful day in Matatiele! Women from all walks of life came together to run, walk, support, and celebrate each other.

From the first step to the finish line, the energy was incredible. This was more than just a race. It was a celebration of women, wellness, and unity in our community.

We were honoured to have Mayor, Cllr Stuurman in attendance. In his words of support he said:
"Women’s Day is very important as it reminds us that every woman in this country must be protected".

A heartfelt thank you to Jubilee Pharmacy for hosting this meaningful event, to all the sponsors, volunteers, marshals, and to every woman who showed up and showed out.

Life-Changing Road Infrastructure for the People of Matatiele

Municipality Manager adv. Lepheana reiterated Municipality commitment to work closely with South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) to ensure the road construction project is delivered on time.
Municipal Manager was speaking during the site visit to Qacha’s Nek Border Gate. The purpose of the visit was to assess the current condition of the road from Maluti to Qacha’s Nek, to engage on project plans, and ensure that preparations are aligned for the upcoming construction work.
He says importance of this infrastructure development is to improving access, safety, and economic opportunities for communities in and around Matatiele. In addition he said that the road from Maluti to Qacha’s Nek Border Gate serves as a key route for cross-border movement, trade, and tourism, and that upgrading the road will significantly benefit residents, businesses, and travelers.
This project forms part of broader government efforts to improve road infrastructure, boost regional connectivity, and support economic growth in the Alfred Nzo region.

Hon. Mzimkhulu Thebolla Gives Back to His Roots in Matatiele Ward 13

Honourable Mzimkhulu Thebolla, Mayor of the Msunduzi Municipality The City of Choice, who was born and bred in Matatiele, Ward 13, continues to give back to his community.

As part of his community outreach, the Mayor delivered JoJo tanks to Tsekong Primary School. He has also partnered with a company that will provide the school with a printing machines.

During the handover, Cllr Stuurman Mayor of Matatiele Local Municipality expressed gratitude and urged the school principal to take good care of the equipment, noting that such initiatives do not reach everyone.

Furthermore, Hon. Thebolla will be hosting the annual Khumbulekhaya Tournament at Queen’s Mercy from 08 to 10 August 2026. All Matatiele teams are invited to participate in Soccer, Ladies Soccer, and Netball. Exciting prizes are to be won.
