On the 17th Of February 2026, we had a training on Financial Literacy at Kwandengezi. πŸ’Έ

A lot of people find themselves not having money left over even if they earn a decent salary. That is a problem that can be easily solved with intelligent budgeting. The Out Surance facilitators were at Kwandengezi aftercare assisting our children's guardians and youth make their money work for them. You don't need to be a high earner to budget well or even start your own business. You just need to know your goals. Knowing them helps you plan best on how you can go about achieving them. Community Outreach Centre, St Mary’s is grateful for this continued partnership is 2026.☺️

It was interactive. The adults found themselves learning a lot from the children. We are grateful to the Principal, and the teachers who welcomed the programme and supported us in making it possible.πŸ™

On the 13th of March we had an awareness at Delani Primary school for grade R and 1....the vision behind this awareness was because of high rate of alleged r**e cases reported in Thornwood. COC had partnered with UKZN Occupation Therapy to teach them on understanding their body and knowing the red flags when someone tried to touch the in the wrong way and to know that it is important to report whenever there is someone who touch or do things they are not comfortable with. 🫸
We had reached 450 learners who attended. Awareness will be still continuing with other grade and aim to reach all souronding school in the area.πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈπŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

Last year 2025 while working in the community the Project Officer (PO) and community caregivers discovered a young mother of 3 who did not have an ID document and her 3 children who did not have birth certificates.... we have encouraged and adviced her on the importance of getting an ID and in October 2025 she got her ID.πŸͺͺ

Great news: the kids also have birth certificates and Child support grant application is in a process. πŸ“

This year we started the process of getting birth certificate for her 3 children so that she can be able to get Child support grant and on the 12 of Feb 2026 she recieved her childrenΒ΄s birth certificates and with the help of COC we are in the process of applying for child support grant.

Community Outreach Centre, St Mary’s had the privilege of being invited to RK Khan for a multi-sectorial training on the Domestic Violence Amendment Act, Child Justice Amemdment Act, Sexual Offences Amendment Act, Thuthuzela Model, Medical Evidence collection and Child Interviewing.
The above topics were led by the Thuthela Care Centre and the National Prosecuting Authority and the SAPS Lab. They all demonstrated the exact processes that take place between the period of a violation taking place, and prosecution. We got to hear of success stories, and also gaps and challenges of getting convictions.
The key take away in all of this is that crimes need to be reported as much as possible for so that less cases land up as cold cases.πŸ“
