Why does Give a Child a Family Africa focus entirely on family-based care, temporary care in families, and preventative work rather than running a Child and Youth Care Centre as we did in the past? And how can a social worker access our database of approved Temporary Safe Care parents?
These important questions were answered by GCF’s Alternative Care Team at yesterday's Stakeholder Breakfast at St. Michaels Sands.
We were all moved by a previous foster child's story, from being placed in a Child and Youth Care Centre to finding belonging in one of our foster families. Today, he is a thriving young man with dreams of one day being a present parent and helping his own community.
We also heard from Amanda, a social worker who shared her experiences of using GCF's database of Temporary Safe Care parents and the difference that family-based care can make for children in crisis.
Together with our colleagues from Child Welfare Port Shepstone, Child Welfare SA Margate, DSD Gamalakhe, DSD Port Shepstonw and Solidariteit Helpende Hand Oos-Kaap & KZN-Suid Streek, we agreed that creating a safer world for children requires all of us working together.
Thank you to St Michaels Sands Hotel for your excellent service, and to everyone who joined us! 🏡❤️✨
