The ZRP has noted with concern a fake video circulating on social media alleging that the Commissioner General of Police Stephen Mutamba has resigned from his position. The ZRP dismisses this video as fake and was generated using Artificial Intelligence. As we speak, the Commissioner General is executing his constitutional duties as the Commissioner General of Police.

The ZRP confirms the arrest and subsequent appearance in court of Kariba RIDA District Coordinator, Ignatius Chiome (49) on criminal charges of Culpable Homicide. More details will be availed in due course.

With reference to this video, the public is accordingly advised that this is a 2016 incident which was appropriately dealt with by the ZRP Command in line with the set parameters. We warn individuals and groups against recklessly and callously circulating old videos with an agenda to turn Zimbabweans against the police. For the record, the ZRP takes stern disciplinary action on any misconduct by its members. This is on public record.

Reference is made to an incident that went viral on social media involving a ZRP police officer and a City of Harare security personnel. The public is advised that the constable involved was arrested and is now facing both criminal and disciplinary charges. More details will be released on 19/08/26.

The ZRP conducted a Health and Trauma Workshop for traffic police officers in Harare, aimed at addressing health and trauma-related challenges faced by police officers. The workshop was conducted in partnership with Road Safe Zimbabwe, the UN Road Safety Department, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe.
