Marloth Fence Walkers Club Kruger Kruger wildlife sightings & other interesting observations about wildlife in Marloth Park We are like visitors with a looking glass view at nature.

Walking along the fence line in Marloth Park gives you the opportunity to view the wildlife of Kruger in the open without the distractions of crowds of cars. We often see lions, buffalo, hippo & elephant interacting with each other at the river. Sightings of the big 5 are frequent, especially during the dry winter months. The banks of the Crocodile River at Marloth are the key killing fields of a

large pride of lions. We see the lions hunting along the river almost daily at certain times of the year & have witnessed their kills & their lives. The call of the fish eagle, the snort of the hippo and the sound of the river rapids all add to the serenity of the scene. The fence is a stark barrier between us. We can however watch & wonder.

Last week early walkers along the MP fence were treated to see lion spoor in marloth and evidence of a kill (duiker?) against the fence on the inside. Also signs that a crocodile had crept up to the fence on the outside & stolen one leg from the kill. Amazing sighting, requiring detective analysis.

Yesterday the pride were back at the crocodile river. 4 beautiful dark-maned lions. 3 females and 3 sub-adults. They were just lying around in the midday sun. A warthog came down the hillside, almost tripped over a sleeping Male before it saw him, then turned in shock and ran away, Alerting a dazzle of zebra on their way to the river to drink. They were heading directly towards the pride. One of the females is in oestrus and is being closely suited by a Male.
Photos by Jan Kookemoor and Maureen Jarratt. All thanks to them for great pics.

A birth ... and a death.... all in one day. After the rains in MP the impala are giving birth. It is one of the wonders of the wild to see the first faltering steps of a baby impala. 5 mins later they are running with Mom. Lets hope there are more rains to come soon. The animals need the grazing. As usual,Thanks to Jan K.
