Nyandeni Local Municipality

Nyandeni Local Municipality NLM consists of two magisterial towns Libode and Ngqeleni. Libode is 30km away from the city of Mthatha on the way to PSJ(R61) and Ngqeleni is 23km.

The Nyandeni Local Municipality is situated in the area which is commonly known as Western Pondoland. It is the traditional home of the Amampondo people. The legend recount that the kingdom of King Faku and his son Ndamase, decided to expand the kingdom with his son moving to the land West of the Umzimvubu River. However when they arrived at the river it was in flood, the only way they could cros

s the river was to use the nyanda(The tradition name of the bundle of wood usually collected women) they used nyanda as their flotation device. They settled by on the Western side of the Umzimvubu river in what is today Nyandeni (place of the bundle of firewood) it consists of two magisterial towns Libode & Ngqeleni. Libode is 30km away from the city of Mthatha on the way to Port St Johns (R61), Ngqeleni is 23km away from Mthatha.

‼️SAPHELA ISIZWE YI-TSUFU ‼️INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING 🚫

Today, The Department of Social Development, Nyandeni Local Municipality and the Eastern Cape Liquor Board hosted the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at Mbange Church Hall, Ward 24 in Ngqeleni .

The programme served as a platform to educate and empower community members, particularly young people about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse. Various stakeholders shared valuable information on prevention, early intervention, available support services and the importance of making healthy, informed choices.
