📌[WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY]👵👴

Every year on June 15, the world marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It is a day dedicated to shedding light on a painful reality that often stays hidden behind closed doors: the physical, emotional, financial, and systemic abuse experienced by older persons.

Elder abuse isn't just one thing, it is a mix of different ways people can be hurt as they get older, such as:

💵Money theft- taking someone’s pension or forging their signature,
😔Neglect- when someone isn't given the food, medicine, or care they need
😭physical or emotional bullying- threats, hitting, or keeping them elders away from friends & their community. Since these problems often happen at the same time, they take away a person's sense of safety and dignity, making it important for neighbors and family to look out for one another.

The true measure of any community lies in how it treats its most vulnerable members. Safeguarding older generations is not an act of charity but a fundamental duty owed to those who laid the foundations we stand on today.

While the global observance is held annually on 12 May to mark Florence Nightingale’s birthday, today we’re taking this moment to honor the dedication, compassion, and skill of our local JTG nurses.

JTG District Celebrates International Nurses Day 2026 💙👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Today, 12 June 2026, the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District is proudly commemorating International Nurses Day. While the global observance is held annually on 12 May to mark Florence Nightingale’s birthday, today we’re taking this moment to honor the dedication, compassion, and skill of our local JTG nurses.

Nurses are the backbone of our health system. Across clinics, hospitals, and communities in JTG, they do much more than treat illness—they prevent it, coordinate care, educate families, and provide comfort during our most vulnerable moments. Strong, supported nurses equal stronger, healthier communities.

The 2026 Focus
The theme for this year is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” This theme focuses on strengthening health systems by empowering nurses, protecting their rights, and ensuring safer working conditions. Investing in nursing staff is crucial to saving lives.

The event was graced by key health leaders, including Mr Riaan Strydom (Director of Nursing, NCDoH) and Mr D Disipi (DENOSA). Pastor R Badenhost shared a powerful message of motivation, while our financial partners: Metropolitan, Standard Bank, Liberty Group, Old Mutual & Sanlam, provided valuable empowerment and financial guidance

To every nurse in JTG District, thank you for your professionalism, resilience, and heart. Your work matters, your future matters, and empowered—you truly do save lives.
