ICYMI 📍
We recently learned with deep sadness of the passing of Mr. Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape on 16 May 2026.
Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape was a visionary leader whose contribution to development, education, and skills empowerment in the JTG District will remain a lasting legacy for generations to come. His passing marks the loss of a committed servant of the people, whose life’s work was dedicated to uplifting communities, creating opportunities for young people, and advancing sustainable development within the district.
He played an instrumental role as a strategic advisor in the conceptualisation of the then Kgalagadi Rural Poverty Node Charitable Trust, now known as the JTG Developmental Trust, in the early 2000s. Through his insight and leadership, he helped lay the foundation for meaningful community upliftment and long-term sustainable development within the district. His passion for progress and people-centred development positioned him among the key architects of initiatives that continue to benefit countless young people and families today.
Bushy also conceptualised and served as a founding trustee of the then Kgalagadi Human Resource Development Trust, which later gave rise to the JTG Trust’s bursary scheme. Through this initiative, more than 400 graduates have emerged in various fields, including engineering, finance, law, and many others. His unwavering belief in the transformative power of education opened doors for young people who otherwise may not have had access to higher learning opportunities.
What distinguished Bushy was his hands-on approach and genuine commitment to understanding the real needs of communities. He spearheaded a comprehensive skills audit survey for the Trust, going door to door throughout the JTG District to engage directly with residents and identify the skills most needed within the region. This was not merely a desktop exercise, but a people-centred initiative rooted in his passion for education, skills development, and community empowerment.
The findings of this audit became instrumental in shaping the developmental trajectory of the JTG District as it is known today. His work reflected foresight, dedication, and a deep understanding that sustainable development begins with investing in people.
Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape will be remembered not only for the institutions and programmes he helped establish, but also for the hope, opportunities, and transformation he brought into the lives of many. His legacy lives on through every graduate, every empowered young person, and every community initiative inspired by his vision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the Maape family, friends, former colleagues, and all associated stakeholders during this difficult time.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
“Driving high impact sustainable change.”
