JOE MOROLONG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY –
In light of the ongoing cold and rainy weather conditions, all community members
are urged to exercise extreme caution and take proactive safety measures. Weather forecasts indicated that the persistent rain increasing the risk of localized flooding.

Key Safety Precautions for Community Members:
* Do Not Cross Flooded Areas: Avoid walking or driving across flooded bridges, roads, or low-lying streams. Moving water is unpredictable and dangerous.
* Seek Higher Ground: Community Members living in low-lying areas or flood-prone zones should prepare to move to higher ground immediately if water levels begin to rise.
* Drive with Caution: Keep headlights on, maintain a safe following distance, and reduce speed on wet roads.

⚠️ ROAD CLOSURE ALERT: JTG DISTRICT.

The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works wishes to alert motorists that DR3475 at Metswetsaneng in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District has been temporarily closed due to flooding.

The closure follows the overflowing of the Metswetsaneng crossing due to rainfall experienced in the area.

The Department's standby team has closed the affected section of the road as a precautionary safety measure, particularly as motorists may not be able to accurately assess the depth and strength of flowing water during the night.

Motorists and members of the public are strongly urged not to attempt to cross flooded roads, low-lying bridges or overflowing streams, and to obey all road closure signs.
Departmental teams are on standby and will continue monitoring identified high-risk roads and crossings across the affected areas, with further updates to be communicated as conditions develop.

*📌🏡HAND OVER OF HOUSES AT THE DEURHAM 43 HOUSING PROJECT IN DEURHAM -JOE MOROLONG MUNICIPALITY.

Northern Cape COGHSTA MEC Mr. Lebogang Motlhaping, accompanied by Mayor Cllr. Dineo Leutlwetse-Tshabalala, Acting Speaker Cllr. Thapelo Mosegedi, Ward Councillor Sally Manzana, Kgosi Holele, the Municipal Manager, include Departmental and Municipal Officials handed over 18 houses at the Deurham 43 Housing Project and inspected progress at the Wyk 5 project in Joe Morolong Local Municipality. Part of the Provincial Government's R1-Billion Housing Initiative, these projects ensure strict construction standards and deliver dignified housing to local communities.

*📌🏡MEC MOTLHAPING TO HAND OVER HOUSES AT THE DEURHAM 43 HOUSING PROJECT AND CONDUCT AN OVERSIGHT VISIT TO THE WYK 5 HOUSING PROJECT IN THE JOE MOROLONG MUNICIPALITY.*

The Northern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Mr. Lebogang Motlhaping, will hand over completed houses at the Deurham 43 Housing Project and conduct an oversight visit to the Wyk 5 Housing Project with the intention of inspecting the progress of the project. Both projects are located in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

The oversight visit is designed to monitor construction standards, assess project timelines, and ensure strict accountability on the ground.

These housing projects are part of the One-Billion-Rand Housing Project implemented by the Northern Cape Provincial Government, aimed at expediting housing delivery, eradicating informal settlements, and restoring dignity to communities across the Province.

MEC Motlhaping will be accompanied by local leaders from both the John Taolo Gaetsewe District and Joe Morolong Local Municipalities.

SPAZA SHOP INSPECTIONS IN JOE MOROLONG

The Joe Morolong Local Municipality - Local Economic Development (LED) Unit led by Exco Member Cllr Naomi Mokweni today conducted spaza shop inspections across Bendel and Deurham to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws, guidelines and regulations.

During the operation, five (5) shops were closed for non-compliance.

The inspections were conducted jointly with the Department of Home Affairs - Immigration Unit to verify documentation and ensure all operations are within the law.

The Municipality will continue with these routine inspections to protect consumers, support compliant businesses, and ensure a safe and regulated trading environment.
