📢 OPENING OF THE NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCIAL HOUSE OF TRADITIONAL AND KHOI-SAN LEADERS

The Northern Cape Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders (NCPHTKL) will officially open its fourth session of the fourth house, on Thursday, 04 June 2026,at the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature

The opening session will be led by Chairperson Kgosi P. Toto, with the keynote address delivered by Northern Cape Premier Dr. Zamani Saul.

This important occasion marks the commencement of the House's work for the year, focusing on strengthening traditional leadership, advancing community development, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting cooperative governance across the province.

📍Unannounced Visit to the District Department of Education

Today, a high-level municipal delegation led by the Mayor of Joe Morolong Local Municipality, Cllr Dineo Leutlwetse-Tshabalala, conducted an unannounced visit to the District Department of Education to engage on matters of mutual interest.

Delegation was warmly welcomed by the District Director, Mr Teise. Key discussion during the engagement was the ongoing dispute involving learner transport service providers, some of whom have suspended services due to rising fuel costs. The disruption has affected a significant number of learner transport routes across the municipality. However, it was noted that learner transportation has continued uninterrupted in several parts of Joe Morolong, ensuring that many learners are still able to access their schools.

The meeting further deliberated on the impact of the recent flooding disaster on schools, with particular emphasis on damage to road infrastructure and the challenges this poses to the safe and reliable transportation of learners.

The visit also served as an important platform to strengthen cooperation and working relations between the Department of Education and the Municipality.

Municipal delegation which accompanied the Mayor included EXCO Members Cllr Moses Mbolekwa and Cllr Naomi Mokweni, Council Whip Cllr Gomolemo Tagane, and Ward 4 Councillor Cllr Tumelo Gaobuse.

[In Pictures] JOE MOROLONG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY MAYOR HELD COMMUNITY MEETING IN MASANKONG VILLAGE.

Today, 02 June 2026, the Mayor of Joe Morolong Local Municipality, Cllr D.D. Leutlwetse-Tshabalala together with Ward Councillor G. Tagane, led a community engagement meeting in Masankong Village, Ward 05.

The meetings’s key focus was to engage directly with residents on service delivery challenges affecting the area following the recent floods. This engagement provided a platform for community members to raise concerns, share their experiences, and interact directly with municipal leadership on matters impacting their daily lives.

Municipal Senior Managers and Traditional Leaders were amongst those who attended the meeting.

A cut-off low-pressure system is expected to bring cold, wet & windy conditions to the central & southern parts of the country on Wednesday and Thursday, with a possibility of localised flooding in the Eastern Cape & the Western Cape. GCIS will on 28 May 2026 implement Local Government Thursdays (LG Thursdays) Radio Talk shows.

Talk shows are weekly radio programmes where various municipalities across the country get an opportunity to present , unpack and discuss key priorities of their Municipalities as contained in the Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) covering water provisioning, infrastructure development, local economic development initiatives as well as basic services.

Key messengers to these programmes are political principals, key local government messengers and subject matter experts in LG and their communities.
