The previous week we provided 1,549 plates of food. This is not possible without those who support us. We are grateful for the help and the kindness shown.

For next week’s shopping list, we are going to need the following please:
10kg - Sugar, Oats, Wors, Spaghetti,
5l Oil,
2l x 12 Milk,
3kg Margarine,
4kg Mixed Frozen Vegetables and Peas,
5kg Russians, Carrots,
1kg Chicken Spice, Paprika,
Big tin Jam.

If you would like to assist us in this, please remember anything you provide is something we don’t have to buy and we can use. We are open 24/7 so if you would like to courier (our address is Corner Church and Rissik Streets, Krugersdorp CBD).

Thank you to those who are asking and seeing where you can help.

For the coming week we will need please:
Sugar, Salt, Samp, Oil, Oats, Mabela, Teabags, Crushed garlic, mixed frozen vegetables and/or peas, cabbage, carrots, green beans, flour, yeast, bread and disposable soup size cups.

We can feed up to 150 people per night, so we usually look at buying 10kg of most things. However, each donation of any size makes a difference to help us keep costs down.

Just the other day someone asked me what we need for Tower’s meals. So, in case someone else is wondering too here is a list.

To explain, we work on a menu we set up on a Friday using what we already have, and we usually buy any other ingredients on a Tuesday.

So this is what we have on our shopping list for the coming week; oil (5l), mabela and samp 10kg each (we have opted out of buying oats (as it is too expensive but when we do we use 10kg), margarine (3kg), frozen vegetables (1kg) , tomato & onion mix (big tin), spaghetti (10kg), carrots (5kg), cabbage (6), spinach (10), mayonnaise (3kg). We will be buying bread as we need for our soup we are making.

For breakfast we are using mielie meal (12,5kg) and sugar (10kg) and milk (12 x 2l) but we had a sponsor donate towards this for this week so we don’t need to put it on the shopping list this round.

For the year we had a sponsor donate bread for lunches (we use about 10 loaves per lunch day) but that has come to an end. Financially we can’t provide three meals so lunches will have to stop for now.

Everything we receive in donation can make a difference in our menu and in what we buy. What you donate has a huge impact. One cabbage means we buy less so don’t think it’s not good enough.

If you are one of those people who would like to assist you are welcome to drop off any time (we are open 24/7). You can make use of different shops’ delivery services or deposit finances into our bank that will be used to cover these costs.

The note was written by a resident and says “Dear Tower of Life. I would like to kindly just send my own personal message to all staff. Thank you for what you guys are offering up by supporting me.”

It is always encouraging when a resident SEES what the team does and offers. Each person that works here is giving so much of their time and effort.

Thank you (in alphabetic order) to Anna, Arno, Donald, Dumisani, Franzwa, Girlie, Khutjo, Rebecca and Thabang. Your hard work and kindness is seen and appreciated.

I add a big thank you to our volunteers who often are expected to go beyond what they “signed up for”.
