MAYOR THABO JACOBS APPLAUDS LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR MAJOR DRUG BUST IN SWARTTRUGGENS.
The Mayor of Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality, Cllr Thabo Jacobs, has welcomed and applauded the successful intelligence-driven operation conducted by the South African Police Service and all law enforcement agencies involved in the dismantling of a multimillion-rand drug manufacturing laboratory in Swarttruggens.
The operation, led by SAPS Crime Intelligence, Organised Crime Investigations, and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), resulted in the arrest of 11 suspects, including four Mexican nationals, allegedly linked to organised criminal activities and drug manufacturing operations.
He commended the coordinated efforts of all departments involved, stating that the successful operation demonstrates government’s continued commitment to fighting organised crime and protecting communities from the devastating effects of drugs and criminal syndicates.
“This successful operation sends a strong message that crime will not be tolerated within our communities. We commend the dedication, professionalism, and bravery demonstrated by all law enforcement agencies involved in ensuring that dangerous criminal networks are dismantled,” said Mayor Jacobs.
He further reiterated the municipality’s firm commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at curbing crime, drug trafficking, and organised criminal activities that threaten the safety and wellbeing of residents.
“The municipality maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards crime of any nature. Criminal activities continue to destroy families and communities, particularly through the spread of drugs. We therefore fully support law enforcement efforts to restore safety, dignity, and stability within our society,” he added.
The Mayor further indicated that the municipality will continue working with relevant law enforcement and immigration authorities to address concerns relating to undocumented foreign nationals and unlawful business operations within the
municipality. He stated that operations aimed at ensuring compliance with South African immigration laws, municipal by-laws, and business regulations will be intensified.
“We encourage all individuals and businesses operating within our municipality to comply fully with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Illegal activities, regardless of who is involved, will not be tolerated,” said Mayor Jacobs.
The Mayor also encouraged community members to continue working closely with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious and criminal activities, emphasizing that fighting crime requires collective responsibility and active community participation.
The Municipality remains committed to building safer communities and strengthening partnerships with law enforcement agencies in the ongoing fight against crime.
