Today, Ward 10 Shayamoya Community Hall became a platform for meaningful engagement and collective action during the Community Crime Fighting Imbizo hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Community Safety and Liaison in partnership with the Greater Kokstad Municipality, SAPS, community stakeholders, and local residents.
The programme brought together various role players committed to strengthening safety, promoting accountability, and building stronger relationships between law enforcement agencies and the community.
The Department of Community Safety and Liaison outlined the purpose of the day, emphasizing the importance of community participation in the fight against crime and the need for residents to work hand in hand with authorities to create safer neighbourhoods. SAPS further presented a crime overview, highlighting current crime trends, ongoing challenges, and interventions being implemented to improve safety and security within the community.
A significant part of the programme was the community engagement session, where residents were given an opportunity to voice their concerns, raise questions, seek clarity on issues affecting them, and contribute suggestions on how crime can be effectively tackled. The discussions reflected the importance of unity, trust, and active citizen involvement in ensuring that communities remain safe and protected.
The imbizo served not only as a crime prevention dialogue but also as a reminder that fighting crime requires collective responsibility, collaboration, and ongoing communication between government, law enforcement, and the people they serve. Through initiatives such as these, communities are empowered to become active participants in creating an environment where peace, safety, and development can thrive.
Together, we continue to stand firm against crime and work towards building a safer, stronger, and more united community.
