MAYOR’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEDNESDAYS CONTINUES TO EMPOWER LOCAL BUSINESSES

The Letsemeng Local Municipality today successfully hosted another Mayor’s Economic Development Wednesday, an initiative aimed at bringing practical business support services closer to local entrepreneurs and strengthening economic development across Letsemeng.
Thus initiative brought together the Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) Unit,SEDFA,Xhariep District Municipality's Environmental Health Unit and the Department of Small Business Development to provide direct assistance and guidance to local businesses.

Entrepreneurs received support with business site applications, verification of business licence applications, SARS tax clearance renewals, BBBEE verification, CIPC and CSD registrations, as well as information on funding and grant opportunities,information on compliance on environmental health issues in the business space, government support programmes and general business development services.

Through the Mayor’s Economic Development Wednesday, the Municipality continues to demonstrate that economic development must go beyond discussion and translate into accessible, practical support for entrepreneurs and emerging businesses.

LETSEMENG CONTINUES SUPPORT TO FIRE-AFFECTED FAMILY

Petrusburg | 08 September 2026

The Mayor of Letsemeng Local Municipality, Cllr Andrew Visagie accompanied by Cllr of Ward 6, Cllr Mokgobo, visited the family affected by the recent tragic house fire in Petrusburg, Ward 6, to assess progress on the Municipality’s commitment to refurbish and restore the fire-damaged home.
The fire tragically claimed the life of a young man and left the family in need of immediate support. The Mayor’s visit was aimed at ensuring that the commitments made to the family are being implemented.
In a heartwarming gesture of community solidarity, Reverend Silo, a Petrusburg resident, also assisted the family with clothing, crockery, food and other basic essentials.
The Municipality appreciates the support shown by community members and remains committed to assisting the family as they rebuild their lives.
Letsemeng Local Municipality once again extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Today, Teamz Dynamics met with the Mayor of Letsemeng Local Municipality, Cllr Andrew Visagie, and Acting Municipal Manager, Mbulelo Jafta, to present the proposed rollout of an Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) partnership supported by ABSA.
The proposed programme could unlock R3.5 million in funding for Letsemeng, aimed at supporting local enterprises, developing emerging suppliers and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
The engagement forms part of the Municipality’s continued efforts to build strategic partnerships that contribute towards local economic growth and business development across Letsemeng.

SPEAKER ENGAGES WARD 4 & 5 WARD COMMITTEES

The Speaker of Letsemeng Local Municipality, Cllr Jessy Kumalo, convened an engagement with Ward 4 and 5 Ward Committees as part of a programme to engage all seven ward committees across the municipality.
The engagement focused on the functionality of ward committees, challenges affecting their work, and obtaining their inputs on how these important public participation structures can operate more efficiently and effectively.
The programme will continue across all seven wards, with the aim of strengthening ward committees and enhancing community participation in municipal affairs.

The Community Engagement Meeting was successfully held on Monday, 7 September 2026, at the MPCC in Koffiefontein.
The engagement provided Turn180 Environmental Consultants and Green-box Consulting with an opportunity to engage the community regarding the Blue Diamond Mines Section 102 and Water Use Licence Applications.
The Municipality appreciates the participation of community members and stakeholders who attended and contributed to the discussions. Such engagements are important in ensuring that communities are informed, consulted and given an opportunity to participate in matters that may affect their area.

The Acting Municipal Manager of Letsemeng Local Municipality, Mr Mbulelo Jafta, today visited the family affected by the tragic house fire in Ward 6, Petrusburg, which sadly claimed the life of a young man.
The visit formed part of the Municipality's administrative follow-up to ensure that the commitments made by the Mayor, Cllr Andrew Visagie, during his visit yesterday are translated into action.
The Mayor committed the Municipality to refurbishing the family home and replacing the sections of the building that were damaged by the fire. The Acting Municipal Manager's visit was therefore aimed at assessing the damage and ensuring that the Department of Community Services coordinates the necessary administrative and operational processes to give effect to this commitment.
The Municipality remains committed to supporting the bereaved family during this difficult period while ensuring that the assistance pledged is implemented in a coordinated and responsible manner.

LETSEMENG RESPONDS TO TRAGIC HOUSE FIRE IN PETRUSBURG

The Letsemeng Local Municipality extends its heartfelt condolences to a family in Ward 6, Petrusburg, following a devastating house fire reportedly caused by a faulty electrical connection. Tragically, a young man lost his life in the incident.

Following the tragedy, the Mayor of Letsemeng, Cllr Andrew Visagie, responded swiftly by assisting the affected family with blankets, food parcels and school uniforms. The Mayor further committed to assisting the family with the repair of their fire-damaged home.

The Municipality stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this painful time and wishes them strength and comfort as they mourn their loved one and begin rebuilding their lives.
