MAYOR MAHLOPHE PAYS HOMAGE TO FAMILIES AND VICTIMS OF DEADLY KANANA SHOOTING

The Executive Mayor of the City of Matlosana Hon Cllr Fikile Mahlophe today visited the families of the victims of the deadly shooting which happened at a Kanana tavern on the night of Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Five people including a 15 year-old girl were fatally shot while two people suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

The motives of the shooting are unknown and the assailants are still at large.

Mayor Mahlophe strongly condemns this barbaric shooting. He offered sincere condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the community of Matlosana and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.

The Mayor called on law- enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in cracking this mass murder and appealed to the public to volunteer any information that can help the police to swiftly bring the culprits to book. He further appealed for calm in the community

Finally, Mayor Mahlophe is appealing to the national government to deploy the army to Kanana to reinforce the work of police in dealing with mass shooting violence which is getting out of control in the area.

LOVE YOUR STREET CAMPAIGN AROUND KOSH AREA

The City of Matlosana’s Community Services Department is today busy with ongoing clean up activities around the KOSH area. Illegal dumping and waste collection was done at the following areas:

- Tigane Ext. 3 next to Bakang Primary School
- Tigane Ext. 2
- Side of Nkang Mahlale Secondary School
- Klerksdorp Taxi Rank next to Overland
- Jouberton Ext. 16 Stadium
- Randle spark behind the complex.

This work is part of the Love Your Street Campaign whose aim is to beautify the city and keep it healthy and attractable for tourists and investors.

SERVICE DELIVERY ACROSS THE CITY

The City of Matlosana’s Roads and Community Services Departments are currently undertaking service delivery work across Matlosana.

- Resealing and Pothole patching currently taking place at Khotso and EM Mongalaki Streets in Kanana
- Grading of roads currently underway in Khuma ward 38

Community Services is currently undertaking the following work:

- Pruning of trees in the Klerksdorp CBD
- Cleaning of Jouberton cemetery
- Cleaning of illegal dumping and grass cutting across the KOSH area.

The above work is part of ongoing accelerated service delivery programme as directed by the Executive Mayor and Council.

CRITICAL ROAD WORKS IN THE CITY

The City of Matlosana’s Roads Department has today undertaken critical road works in the following areas:

- Pothole patching and resurfacing at Williams Street
- Paving at Monica Street
- Pothole patching around Tigane
- Pothole patching around Stilfontein
- Resurfacing at corner Ntlangano and Phuthaditshaba Streets in Jouberton
- Resurfacing at Phuthaditshaba Street.
Meanwhile the Community Services Department has cleaned illigal dumping opposite Chris Hani Secondary School, near Ext. 16 stadium and cleaning of Extension 19 graveyard.

The Electrical Engineering Department is fixing street lights in ward 8.

The above work is part of ongoing accelerated service delivery programme as directed by the Executive Mayor and Council.
