VOORTREKKER ROAD LANDSCAPING PROJECT

The City of Matlosana, under the Community Services directorate, is actively carrying out the Love Your Street campaign in the Klerksdorp central business district (CBD); currently, they are working on the Voortrekker Road Landscaping Project.

The project is a strategic beautification effort aimed at improving the appearance of one of the municipality's main routes and gateways.

The goal is to create an attractive, clean, and well-maintained environment that positively reflects on the municipality and fosters civic pride among residents and visitors.

Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution in construction zones and to obey temporary signage. The City thanks the community for their patience and cooperation during these works.

OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER COMMEMORATES YOUTH DAY WITH DIALOGUE, TALENT AND INSPIRATION

The Office of the Speaker of Council in the City of Matlosana , led by Cllr Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya, commemorated Youth Day 2026 today with a vibrant community celebration at the Tlokwe Cultural Centre in Kanana.

Learners from Kanana Secondary, Tshedimosetso Secondary, Thuto Tsebo Secondary, Matlhaleng Secondary and Mmokeng Secondary participated in debate, poetry, singing, rap and interactive dialogues on issues affecting youth.

Delivering the keynote address, Cllr Mondlane-Ngwenya focused on youth employment and entrepreneurship:
“We must create opportunities for our young people to thrive. Those in small businesses such as catering and car wash must be supported to grow and sustain their livelihoods. Youth employment is not just a dream, it must become a reality.”

Cllr Mondlane-Ngwenya further encouraged the youth saying that they should behave their age, respect themselves , and become leaders and agents of positive change in your communities.

The programme concluded with trophies and medals awarded to the best performers, celebrating talent and the spirit of 1976.

TRANSFORMER BLASTED IN JOUBERTON EXTENSION 11

The City of Matlosana's Electrical Department confirms that a transformer was blasted in Jouberton Extension 11, this morning, 15 June 2026 resulting in power outages in Jouberton Extension 10 and 11.

The City is warning the community of Matlosana, especially in areas such as Alabama, Jouberton, and Manzilpark, to use electricity sparingly during peak times: 17:00 to 20:30 and 05:00 to 08:00 in the morning.

The main cause of these outages is overload on electrical breakers and transformers. Due to the cold weather conditions, electricity demand is unusually high, resulting in power outages in affected areas.

Another significant cause of electrical disruptions is the use of non-essential appliances, including:
- Excessive geyser use
- Leaving lights and plugs on for extended periods
- Using electric stoves as heaters
- Electricity theft and illegal bridging of electrical cables

The Municipality urges consumers to use electricity sparingly during peak hours to prevent further supply disruptions. Repair teams are on site and working to restore power as soon as it is safe to do so.
