ANCYL Dr Kenneth Kaunda Statement on the passing of Masego Phoofolo
The ANC Youth League in Dr Kenneth Kaunda extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Masego Phoofolo, who was tragically and brutally murdered after leaving Chillers Tarven in Ext 10 on Saturday the 24th of January 2026. This senseless act of violence has left a community in shock and mourning.
The Youth League unequivocally condemns this heinous crime, and stands in solidarity with the family in their quest for justice. We join the call for the perpetrators to face the full force of the law, and urge the authorities to ensure that no bail is granted.
Furthermore, we take this opportunity to robustly condemn the scourge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide that continues to plague our nation. It is imperative that we, as a community, stand together to protect our women and girls, and ensure that those who perpetrate such atrocities are held accountable.
We request all relevant stakeholders to provide psychosocial services to the family and affected friends of Masego Phoofolo, to support them through this difficult time.
We urge the community to come together and work with the South African Police Service to fight crime and bring perpetrators to justice. Together, we can create a safer community for all.
We demand justice for Masego Phoofolo and all victims of GBV and femicide. We will continue to work towards creating a society that is safe and just for all.
Ends.
