The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture started the Freedom Day commemoration with a Fun Run early this morning, bringing communities together to reflect on the long road to democracy, while collectively moving forward with purpose.

More than just a race, the event served as a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were hard-won, and that building a better, more inclusive tomorrow requires active participation from all of us.

With every step taken, participants honoured the legacy of those who came before us, while reaffirming our shared commitment to unity, social cohesion and a healthier, more resilient society.

…. Gemma Spies has done it for the THIRD time! 💥

Just moments ago in the 50m Freestyle, she didn’t just win!! She obliterated the previous Schools record of 27.57, stopping the clock at a blistering 27.22

That’s not just a performance… that’s dominance.
That’s not just talent… that’s greatness in motion.

Our golden girl keeps rewriting the record books… one race at a time 🥇

But courage rises. Fire ignites. And champions push through.
