What a great way to complete the list for this hunt!

After searching all day long we found what we were looking for late afternoon!

Just before sunset we went past our last watering hole before heading back to the lodge. We spotted some warthogs and stop to get a better look. After looking threw the bino’s we could only see a female with a couple of young ones. When we wanted to continue another one came out of the tall grass to the right, it looked pretty good but after making sure we were sure, “thats the one”. We switched off the truck and waited, because he was at 280m and the wind was good so he would come closer. We didn’t had much options because we had no cover. He was starting to get closer. We saw that he was going to go around the builded dam and we saw the opportunity to get off and try to do a stalk to get closer. We all got off and was about to start walking when he came out from behind the dam. The grass was too long and we had no option but to get back on the truck to have an open shot. He came till 236m from us and started digging in the ground. This was our chance. Marek said he was comfortable doing this shot. He knew that we didn’t had much time and that on a warthog the shot placement is anywhere. He was standing with his backside towards us and Marek made a prefect first shot. He turned around and started running. If possible Marek must get another shot in him, but it won’t be easy. He got in the tall grass and we could only see the white teeth every now and then. Marek timed it and did a perfect second shot in the neck.

Well done, Marek!

On our way back to the lodge after the Gemsbuck, we had some more good luck!

We were still smiling about the Gemsbuck when this Jackal was running in the road. By this time it was dark and we had to use the trucks lights. We quickly loaded some bullets and the Jackal stopped. At about 50m Marek smoked it!

Well done, Marek!

It was late afternoon. We were out all day searching for warthog.

We did see a lot of warthogs, but not one that stood out for us and we still had time on our side so we rather wait for a better one.

While driving back to the lodge we got blessed with a great opportunity. While passing a herd of Gemsbuck, this beautiful female caught our eye. The herd stopped and we had to use it. All the way to the right hand side she was standing. We quickly got ready and Marek did a great shot at this Gemsbuck female that was standing perfectly broadsided at 198m.

Well done, Marek!

This afternoon we decided to get the wind in our favour and go for a walk towards the watering hole.

We got to the watering hole, but there were so many animals, that means there is a lot of eyes. As we got closer some Impala have spotted us and set the alarm off. All the animals took off even the warthogs. There was a lot of warthogs and a nice male as well, but they didn’t stop and just kept going. We kept wondering on. We found a herd of Springbuck and made a stalk to get closer. There was only one male in there and he was not exactly what we were looking for. Way past them we spotted a nice Springbuck, but he was about 250m away. The mission now become to get closer to that one. We waited for the herd infront of us to graze away so we could get in. That male kept his distance. It almost became a Cat and Mouse game. As we got closer he kept moving away. He always kept a safe distance between us. We worked hard to get in. We stopped under a tree just to see what happens if everything calmed down, but we couldn’t get in range. We decided to go back to the water, maybe we get lucky there. As we walked back that male was on his way to his territory spot. We took cover and waited. He has gotten very close and was behind a bush. When he came out on the right side of the bush he was staring straight at us and Marek did a good frontal shot at 83m.

Well done, Marek

Out on our morning hunt, while driving we spotted a herd of Gemsbuck.

We got off and we will see what happens. We did a good stalk on them and didn’t want to push too much. With this big herd there are so many eyes and Gemsbuck are spooked easily. We got up to them at 190m. In the gap we could see a couple of Gemsbucks. Some smaller ones and a couple of nice females, but all were standing in a position with no shots. While we waited this Gemsbuck Bull came from the left, walking straight up to a tree. He started eating on the tree while he was stretched out to reach the leaves. It made such a nice picture and we were ready for it. Marek made a great shot on him!

Early morning we went out to search for some Kudu.

While driving we spotted a herd of Kudu. We moved on and got off about 2km from where we spotted them! So the stalk started. We moved slow and steady. We got pass some Springbuck and a Blue Wildebeest. We got close to the Kudu. We saw this nice bull and a couple of cows with calfs. We went around a tree and stopped behind a big bush. We got the sticks open and slowly moved out from behind the bush till we got some open area to shoot from. The bull was standing to the left with his back side towards us busy grazing on a bush. He turned around and gave two steps to the right. He stopped behind a small bush that covered his body, but there was a small opening on the shoulder. He stared straight at us. We had to move fast before he takes off. Marek did a great job, he moved very fast and saw the gap to shoot. He took this big Kudu Bull at 52m.

Well done, Marek

We had a good morning. We saw a lot of animals

We spotted a good Blue Wildebeest and we got off and hide behind a tree so the vehicle can get away. We started with the stalk. The Blue Wildebeest paired up with a Black Wildebeest. A couple of Blesbuck passed by as well. We got a bit closer, but the Wildebeest took off with the Blesbuck. We walked in the direction we last saw them. Coming around a bush we heard a snor. That Wildebeest was smart and hide between some trees and didn’t gave us an opportunity and took off again. We kept walking in the direction, but we got to the area where the trees stopped and the open plains started and only the Black Wildebeest was there. So we called the vechile to get us. Next moment a nice Blue Wildebeest appeared and moved in behind a bush. This was our chance to get closer. We got to 150m, but he was standing at a no shot position. So we waited. He started walking and stopped perfectly broadsided at 174m. Marek did a great shot!

We had a great first day of hunting. Morning trip we saw alot of animals and even got close to some of them, but not the size we were looking for.

Afternoon we decided to get the wind right and just go for a walk and see what we will get. Always nice doing that when the list is still full. We got really close, about 35m, to a Springbuck that was busy grazing. Close to the Natural waterhole, when we came around a bush a beautiful Impala male and a couple of Springbuck was busy grazing. We stopped dead in our tracks, the Impala looked up for a bit and went on grazing. That gave us enough time to get Marek on the sticks and had to move a bit for some branches but then he had an open spot. The Impala noticed something and looked up. Marek was also ready and at 70m sending the bullet to this nice Impala standing at a quartering towards us position.

Well done on your first African animal, Marek!
