Official Statement of YCLSA SPU Branch

Subject: Clarification of YCLSA SPU Branch Affiliation and Misinformation

Date: 09 October 2023

To Whom It May Concern,

We, the Branch Task Team (BTT) of the YCLSA (Young Communist League of South Africa) SPU Branch, issue this statement to address recent misinformation and clarify our legitimate affiliation status.

We vehemently reject the joint statement that suggests YCLSA SPU Branch would retract any media statement. Let it be known that we will not be dictated to by individuals who display arrogance rather than wisdom. Even their so-called old masters attempting old tricks will find no fertile ground here at SPU. If they wish to engage, they can try in their own Kasi. We stand unshaken, resolute in our principles, and undaunted by empty threats.

LEGITIMATE AFFLIATION AT SPU:

We categorically assert that YCLSA SPU Branch is legitimately affiliated with Sol Plaatje University. We have attached an official letter confirming our affiliation, which is duly recognized by the university administration. Our affiliation status is transparent, legal, and in accordance with all relevant regulations.

MISINFORMED CLAIMS AND FACEBOOK PAGE:

Today, there have been misleading claims circulating on social media regarding the affiliation of our branch and the management of our page. We wish to set the record straight.

CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP: It is true that our convenor, has resigned from their position within YCLSA SPU Branch. This decision was made due to concerns related to self-serving and arrogant individuals whose actions did not align with the principles and values of PYA.

MISATTRIBUTIONS TO EFF MEMBERS: We want to emphasize that our page is not administered by EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) members. Any claims suggesting otherwise are baseless and misleading. We have no affiliation or association with EFF.

THE CAPABLE BRANCH TASK TEAM:

This team is committed to upholding the principles of Marxism-Leninism and serving the interests of the working class and students at Sol Plaatje University. We remain steadfast in our commitment to these principles and will not be deterred by misinformation.

CHALLENGE TO THE PROCLAIMED YCLSA:

We challenge those who claim affiliation with YCLSA to provide evidence of their affiliation and legitimacy. As the legitimate YCLSA SPU Branch, we stand ready to engage in any necessary verification processes to ensure clarity and transparency in these matters.

COMMITMENT TO THE TRUTH:

We want to assure all concerned parties that YCLSA SPU Branch is committed to truth and transparency. We will continue to speak the truth, expose lies, and advocate for the interests of the working class and students.

We remain steadfast in our support for the EFFSC candidates and independent individuals who prioritize the students' interests in the upcoming SRC elections. We make no apologies for rejecting arrogant and self-serving individuals. We are resolute and unwavering, undeterred by the interference of outside influences who hold no stake in our university affairs.

In conclusion, we call on all concerned parties and the public to verify information from credible sources and refrain from spreading baseless allegations and rumours. YCLSA SPU Branch remains united, legitimate, and committed to our revolutionary ideals.

The YCLSA SPU Branch stands unwaveringly committed to the forthcoming SRC Elections scheduled for 18-19 October 2023. We wish to make it explicitly clear that our resolute support will be extended exclusively to candidates representing the EFFSC (Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command) and independent candidates.

We also take this opportunity to offer a stern caution to some small gibberish talker, refrain from meddling in matters that are beyond your comprehension. Do not allow yourselves to be manipulated as pawns by those with narrow and self-serving agendas.

Your endless babble about nonsense and student politics is wasting your precious time. Wake up! You can't afford to stretch a one-year course into two years. Drop the politics, ditch the keyboard, and get your head into the books. Don't be a fool. Invest your energy where it matters – your education. For your own information, YCLSA SPU Branch was affiliated this year, and it forms part of the clubs and societies in Sol Plaatje University, whether you and your master's like it or not.

Our refusal to support candidates aligned with individuals who compromise the welfare of students and pander to university management is a principled one. We will not be party to those who prioritize personal gain and privilege over the needs of our fellow students.

The YCLSA SPU Branch, whether operating within PYA structures or independently, is an autonomous organization composed of independent thinkers. We want to make it explicitly clear that we will not lend our support to any actions or decisions that align with wrongdoing or compromise our principles. Our commitment to upholding justice, integrity, and the rights of the student community remains steadfast, and we will act in accordance with these values at all times, regardless of our affiliations or partnerships. Our independence is a testament to our unwavering dedication to the betterment of our university and its students.

We believe that this decision is in the best interest of the student body at SPU, and we stand firmly by it.

At the Naming of the Yunus Ballim Square event, Prof Ballim was further presented with a portrait as a token of appreciation for his immense contribution to the conceptualisation, implementation and realisation of one of the first post-apartheid universities in South Africa - Sol Plaatje University.
