🚁 NORTHERN CAPE GOVERNMENT CONDUCTS AERIAL ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD-DAMAGED INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE JTG DISTRICT
📍[HAPPENING TODAY] Premier Dr Zamani Saul, MEC for Roads and Public Works Fufe Makatong, and MEC for COGHSTA Bentley Vass joined engineers and technical teams on an aerial assessment mission to evaluate the extent of flood damage to roads and critical infrastructure across the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
Following the recent Disaster Declaration, government is intensifying efforts to determine the full impact of the floods and the financial resources required to restore damaged transport infrastructure, water treatment facilities, human settlements, and other essential public assets.
The assessment forms part of a coordinated provincial response aimed at guiding recovery and reconstruction efforts. It also provides an opportunity to strengthen planning for resilient and sustainable infrastructure capable of withstanding the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events associated with climate change.
Government interventions remain ongoing as all spheres of government continue to work together to support affected communities, restore essential services, and accelerate recovery efforts.
