A STOP-AND-SEARCH OPERATION LEADS TO THE RECOVERY OF TWO UNLICENSED FI****MS – IN SPRINGS

SPRINGS - On Friday 12 June 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Public Order Policing Unit (POPS) Officers, recovered two (2) unlicensed fi****ms and arrested a twenty-six (26) year old foreign nationals, in the Springs area.

Officers were conducting a stop-and-search operation on Welgedacht Road, when they stopped a blue Renault vehicle occupied by five (5) male suspects. The driver was requested to produce his driver's licence and passport for inspection. During the interaction, Officers observed suspicious movements by some of the occupants inside the vehicle.

Officers immediately removed the vehicle keys from the ignition and instructed all occupants to exit the vehicle for a search. Four (4) of the suspects exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. However, Officers managed to apprehend the driver.

During the search of the vehicle, Officers recovered two (2) unlicensed fi****ms with a defaced serial number concealed under the seats, fifteen (15) rounds of ammunition, five hundred Rand (R500) in cash and a speed point machine.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Springs Police Station. While Officers were processing the suspect, a male complainant arrived at the station to report a robbery. Upon seeing the suspect, the complainant identified him as one of the individuals who had allegedly robbed his shop.

The suspect is facing charges of possession of two (2) unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition. He is expected to appear before the Magistrate Court soon.

⚠️NOTICE⚠️

WADEVILLE- The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Licensing Services has temporarily suspended its operations at the Wadeville Licensing Centre, for both Motor Vehicle Registering Authority(MVRA) and Driving License Testing Centre (DLTC)

This stems from a maintenance issue which resulted in the temporary closure. The centre is set to resume all its operations(MVRA and DLTC) on Monday, 15th day of June 2026.

All bookings will be deferred to a different date and will be communicated with the affected parties.

The EMPD apologises for the inconvenience caused, as this matter is being attended to expeditiously.

TWO ALLEGED HOUSE ROBBERY SUSPECTS APPREHENDED - IN BENONI

BENONI - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, received information regarding the location of individuals allegedly involved in housebreaking activities, in the Boksburg and Benoni areas.

The information, including a description of the suspects and the vehicle they were travelling in, was shared with the operational team. Officers were deployed to strategic locations and an operation was conducted on the same day. The suspect’s vehicle, a white Toyota Camry, was spotted travelling along Atlas Road in Boksburg. Officers successfully stopped the vehicle, which had two occupants and conducted a search.

During the search, a pair of registration number plates were found in the boot of the vehicle. In addition, a bag containing gloves, a bolt cutter, two crowbars, two pick axes, hammers and screwdrivers were discovered on the back seat and seized. The driver and passenger failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of these implements.

The forty-one-year-old (41) and thirty-nine (39) year-old suspects were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station for possession of housebreaking implements. They are expected to appear before the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.

🚨TRAFFIC UPDATE🚨

KEMPTON PARK – A crime scene is causing traffic delays on the R21 direction south, just before Pomona Road.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Freeway Unit Officers, responded to reports of a truck obstructing traffic in the middle of the roadway. Upon arrival, Officers discovered a thirty-six (36) year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound.

According to the truck driver, two (2) male suspects travelling in a white vehicle allegedly attempted to steal tyres from the truck. The driver reportedly confronted the suspects and discharged his firearm, wounding one of them, while the second suspect fled the scene.

The injured suspect was transported by ER24 to Tembisa Hospital in a serious condition.

Two left lanes remain closed and motorists are advised to approach the area with caution.

The scene will be handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.

STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED AND ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED - IN PRIMROSE

PRIMROSE – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Germiston North Precinct Officers, arrested a forty (40) year-old male suspect for possession of a stolen vehicle in the Primrose area.

While conducting a law enforcement duties, at the intersection of Wychwood and Main Reef Roads, Officers stopped and searched a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by the suspect.

A systematic verification of the vehicle was conducted using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The enquiry revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in 2025 and was linked to a case registered in Maitland, Durban.

The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and detained at Primrose Police Station. He is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon on charges relating to the possession of a stolen vehicle.

BY-LAWS OPERATION CONDUCTED BY STAKEHOLDERS YIELDS POSITIVE RESULTS - IN BENONI

BENONI – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct, together with officials from Ekurhuleni City Planning and the Department of Social Development, conducted a by-laws enforcement operation in the Benoni area.

The joint law enforcement team followed up on reports of unauthorised land use involving rental rooms, where illegal electricity connections were discovered. The caretaker was served with a notice to cease operations, while penalties were imposed on the property owner’s municipal account. The matter has been referred to the EMM City Planning offices for further investigation and action.

Illegal traders operating in the area were issued with notices and their goods were confiscated for safekeeping in accordance with applicable by-laws.

Acting on a complaint, Officers also inspected illegally erected structures in the Chief Albert Luthuli area. Two permanent structures, allegedly being used for criminal activities, were demolished.

Furthermore, following a complaint regarding a newly established day-care centre operating from a residential property and concerns about unsuitable conditions for children’s accommodation, an inspection was conducted.

In terms of the City’s by-laws, the application for partial use of the property as a crèche, private hostel, or aftercare centre did not meet the necessary requirements for approval. A 72-hour compliance notice was subsequently issued, after which follow-up inspections will be conducted.

A REPORTED STOLEN WHITE FORD FIESTA RECOVERED – IN PETIT

PETIT – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, recovered a stolen vehicle, in the Petit area.

Officers received information from a reliable source about a wanted white Ford Fiesta. Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle was allegedly taken by a disgruntled employee, who claimed his employer owed him money. The suspect reportedly took the vehicle as "insurance" for the alleged debt.

Officers traced the vehicle and located it on Leopard Road. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR BRIBERY AND BEING UNDOCUMENTED PERSONS - IN CRYSTAL PARK

CRYSTAL PARK – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects for bribery and being undocumented persons, in the Crystal Park area.

While conducting law enforcement duties, Officers stopped a white Nissan bakkie for inspection. The driver tried to bribe the Officers by offering them money to release his passenger, who could not produce legal documents to be in the country.

Both suspects were arrested on separate charges: one for bribery and the other for being undocumented. They were detained at the Crystal Park Police Station and are expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court soon.

FOUR SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOLLOWING CABLE THEFT - IN PRIMROSE, GERMISTON

GERMISTON – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team Officers, arrested four (4) undocumented foreign nationals for the theft and stripping of Telkom copper cables in Primrose, Germiston.

Following on information received from a reliable source, Officers proceeded to a property on Doris Street. Upon arrival, four suspects were caught in action stripping copper cables believed to belong to Telkom infrastructure. Further investigations revealed that the property is also suspected to be a hijacked building being used for criminal activities.

The group was arrested on the scene and detained at the Primrose Police Station.

FOURTEEN SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR BEING UNDOCUMENTED IN THE COUNTRY - IN BENONI

BENONI – The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct, Eastern Region Task Team and Tracing Unit Officers, arrested fourteen (14) male suspects, aged between twenty-one (21) and thirty-six (36) years, for being undocumented in the country.

The arrests were effected in the Tsakane, Etwatwa and Benoni areas, while Officers ere conducting a by-law enforcement operation when they received a complaint regarding rental rooms that were allegedly in a poor and uninhabitable condition. Upon inspection, Officers discovered several rental units lacking basic water and sanitation services.

During the operation, three (3) male suspects were found hiding in one of the rooms. The individuals were unable to produce any form of identification and informed Officers that they were not South African nationals. They were subsequently arrested for being undocumented in the country.

In a separate operation, the Eastern Region Task Team, together with the Tracing Unit, arrested an additional eleven (11) undocumented male suspects in the Etwatwa and Benoni areas.

All fourteen (14) suspects were detained at the Benoni South African Police Service (SAPS) station and are expected to appear before the relevant court soon.
