In commemoration of World Day Against Child Labour, Koukamma Municipality, in partnership with the Department of Social Development, SASSA, the National Development Agency (NDA), and various social partners, hosted an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) in Nompumelelo Village.

The programme brought services on wheels closer to the people of Koukamma Local Municipality, ensuring that communities have access to essential government and support services without having to travel long distances.
The outreach initiative showcased the importance of collaboration between government departments, the private sector, civil society organisations, and social partners in addressing social challenges and promoting the well-being of vulnerable groups, particularly children.

Through this initiative, residents were able to access a range of services and information aimed at strengthening social support systems and raising awareness about the importance of protecting children from child labour and ensuring their rights are upheld.

CALLING ALL SMMEs AND LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS

The Municipality encourages Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), cooperatives, youth-owned, women-owned and disability-owned businesses to take advantage of available economic opportunities and participate in local development initiatives.

SMMEs are encouraged to ensure that their business registrations, tax compliance status, and all relevant documents are up to date to qualify for available opportunities.

On 2 June 2026, during a Special Council Meeting, Councillor Brendon Tirone Jantjies was elected as the new Mayor of Koukamma Municipality.

Councillor Jantjies serves as a Proportional Representation (PR) Councillor representing the Patriotic Alliance.

Koukamma Municipality extends its congratulations to Mayor Jantjies on his election and wishes him success as he assumes this important leadership role in serving the residents and communities of the municipality.
