We are baking! We will soon stock the honest pantry at the Suikerbossie with kookies made by a vintage cookie press. The old still works perfect!

We love history and the simple things in life. The old tells a story and reminds us of a time when we lived slower. A time when we were mindful without even realizing it.

Just after covid the Suikerbossie Mountain Cabin got its furniture. Lots of the pieces was the odds from here and there, but most with a history and story.

The white painted iron bed dates back to the early 1900's and one of a few we found in a queen size.

The bench itself dates back to middel 1900's and is called a "water bankie". It was often used on farms as it did not take up a lot of space and was very practical. It often stood in kitchens or close to entrance doors of farm houses. On it you might have found a bucket of fresh water for all the drink. Shoes was also often stored away underneath to keep the floor in die house clean or the odd milk bucket for when the farmer milked the cows.

The women back in the days also kept thier hands busy in the evenings as there were no TV. They would make crochet bed covers like the one you see at the bottom of the bed. One of these would take them months!
