Removes illegal connections in Maboloka, North West

Eskom North West with the support of South African Police Service and Eskom Security Services conducted infrastructure inspections, meter audits and removal of illegal connections in Maboloka under Madibeng Local Municipality to address unauthorised electricity usage and infrastructure tampering. Unsafe bypassed connections were disconnected to protect grid stability and community safety.

The technical teams conducted door-to-door audits across the area. Residents and property owners found with tampered meters were issued fines and disconnected.

A technical assessment found that more than 500 households were illegally connected to the electricity network. The high number of illegal connections and non-buying customers has caused repeated transformer failures and severe network overload across the area.

We commend compliant customers who are paying for their electricity and continue helping in protecting the electricity infrastructure. Residents are encouraged to report illegal connections and meter tampering anonymously by calling 0800 11 2722 (toll-free), sending an SMS to 31090 or using WhatsApp on 081 333 3323.
