It is with profound sorrow and deep sadness that I have received the sombre news of the untimely passing of Hon. Manuel Domingos Augusto, Head of the Angola Delegation to the Pan African Parliament.

On behalf of the Bureau, Parliamentarians and the entire Pan African Parliament family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Angola, the National Assembly of Angola, the Angolan delegation to the Pan African Parliament led by the 4th Vice President, Hon. Dr. Arlete Borges, and most especially to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult period of mourning.

Hon. Manuel Domingos Augusto was a distinguished statesman, an accomplished diplomat and a committed Pan-Africanist whose dedication to the ideals of African unity, peace and development earned him the admiration and respect of his peers across the continent. His invaluable contributions to parliamentary diplomacy and his unwavering commitment to strengthening the role of the Pan African Parliament in advancing the African Union Agenda will remain an enduring legacy that those of us remaining should strive to emulate.

A fountain of wisdom and a calming presence even during turbulent times in the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Augusto exemplified humility despite his countless individual accomplishments and worked tirelessly to advance the interests of the Republic of Angola as much as he promoted the interests of the continent.

To the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Augusto has gone too soon. We have lost a dedicated servant of Africa, and the continent has lost one of its finest sons. While his passing leaves a great void, his vision, leadership and commitment to the African cause must continue to inspire future generations.
As we mourn this great loss, we stand in solidarity with the Republic of Angola and pray that the Almighty grants strength and comfort to his loved ones and eternal rest to his noble soul.

May his dear departed soul rest in eternal peace.

S.E. Fateh Boutbig, Président du Parlement panafricain, a pris part, le jeudi 4 juin 2026, à une cérémonie d’hommage organisée en son honneur au siège du Conseil de la Nation de la République algérienne démocratique et populaire, à l’occasion de son élection à la Présidence du Parlement panafricain pour la législature 2026-2029.

Cette cérémonie a été présidée par M. Azzouz Nasri, Président du Conseil de la Nation, en présence de hauts responsables de l’État algérien, de membres du corps diplomatique accrédité en Algérie, de représentants d’institutions nationales ainsi que de personnalités parlementaires et africaines.

À cette occasion, le Président du Parlement panafricain a exprimé sa profonde gratitude pour cette marque de considération, soulignant que son élection à la tête du Parlement continental constitue l’expression de la confiance accordée par les États membres et les représentants des peuples africains à l’Algérie, à ses institutions et à ses compétences. Il a également indiqué que cette responsabilité reflète la volonté commune de renforcer le rôle du Parlement panafricain au service des causes du continent et des aspirations de ses peuples.

Le Président du Parlement panafricain a, par ailleurs, réaffirmé son engagement à œuvrer, en étroite coordination avec les membres du Parlement et les différentes institutions continentales, au renforcement de l’action parlementaire africaine commune, à la promotion des valeurs d’unité, de solidarité et d’intégration, ainsi qu’à la réalisation des objectifs de développement, de stabilité et de prospérité à travers le continent.

The President of the Pan-African Parliament, H.E. Dr. Fateh Boutbig, delivered a lecture as part of the celebrations marking Africa Day, organized by the El Moudjahid Newspaper Forum in Algiers.

Speaking during the forum themed “Africa Remembers the Symbols of the Liberation Movements,” President Fateh Boutbig recalled that Africa shaped its history through immense sacrifice in its struggle against colonial domination. “The continent was impoverished by colonial enterprises. Africa, which fought tirelessly for its liberation, is today confronted with new challenges and a new reality brought about by ongoing transformations on the international stage,” he stated.

“Our continent is rich with Pan-African figures whose memory we collectively honour, including Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, one of the architects behind the creation of the Organization of African Unity in 1963, as well as Julius Nyerere, who transformed Tanzania into one of the key rear bases supporting African liberation movements,” he added.

He further noted that Africa is now actively working towards raising public consciousness, strengthening complementarity, promoting development, ensuring food and health sovereignty, and deepening integration in order to speak with one unified voice.

“The world is unforgiving towards the weak, and the Pan-African Parliament will play a decisive role in achieving these objectives. As the representative institution of the will of African peoples, it will rise to the challenges of the moment within the framework of implementing African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly through combating all forms of poor governance,” he stressed.

He added that the Pan-African Parliament would remain at the forefront of advocating for the accelerated implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, the fight against ignorance, and the promotion of economic development. “Today’s Africa speaks of comprehensive development and Agenda 2063,” he said.

During this forum, which focused on the role of African institutions in addressing the continent’s current challenges, H.E. Dr. Fateh Boutbig also sought to point out that “the Pan-African Parliament has a duty to give a voice to the people and to raise their concerns”, emphasising that this institution must also “debate the major challenges facing humanity and the international community today”.
