❗ Stage 16 load-shedding protocols are a monument of the ANC government’s failure to solve the electricity crisis

The publication of Stage 16 draft load-shedding protocols by the National Rationalised Specifications Association of SA is the clearest admission yet by the ANC that they have failed to solve the load-shedding crisis. The only way SA will be able to lessen load-shedding is to allow for more private-sector participation.

⚖️ President reconfirms ANC’s commitment to political expediency over principle

The ANC-led government’s endorsement of BRICS expansion further lacks transparency in evaluation criteria. The stark disparity between SA’s cherished constitutional values and the country’s support for BRICS membership by applicant nations like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Cuba, and Belarus serves as an unsettling reminder of a rudderless ship adrift in stormy seas.

QuickPolitics. Monday 21/8

The BRICS summit starts in Sandton tomorrow. President Cyril Ramaphosa went on TV last night to explain that South Africa will not be drawn into a contest between different factions. People may wonder whether the growing closeness of the ANC with Russia and China mean that South Africa has already picked a side but the ANC doesn’t want to admit it.

The Reserve Bank cleared President Cyril Ramaphosa of any wrongdoing regarding the theft of US dollars in cash from his Phala Phala game farm.
It found he did not contravene exchange control regulations because the buffalo he said he had sold had not been delivered and the transaction was not complete. QP’s question: If he didn’t sell the buffalo and kept the money - what did he actually sell?

The DA is challenging Armscor’s inability to sign contracts to maintain SANDF equipment. The DA pointed to the failure to maintain fixed wing aircraft amid reports of the consequent grounding of planes. The DA accused top Armscor management of going on “business development" junkets to Russia with their secretaries rather than focusing on their task to keep the SANDF operational.
