Today, the NUM PWV Youth Structure reflects on the 177 mineworkers who lost their lives in the Kinross Mine Disaster -24 September 1986 .One of the darkest moments in South Africa’s mining history.

We also reflect on the 68 workers killed at Hlobane in 1983. These tragedies exposed the unsafe conditions mineworkers endured and became a turning point in the fight for workers’ rights, dignity, and safer workplaces.

Our dead: Our heroes.
Our struggle: Their legacy.
Our future: In our hands

Lest we forget. ✊🏾

Today we celebrate the strength, love, and sacrifice of all mothers — especially the women of NUM who balance work underground and at home with courage every day.💕

Your resilience keeps families and the union strong. We honor you, we see you, and we thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day🌸

We stand with the Kloof Shaft #8 family, NUM Kloof Branch, and all Sibanye-Stillwater workers during this painful time.

The loss of two of our comrades is a loss to the entire mining community. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and colleagues. No words can ease the pain, but know that you are not alone — the whole of NUM stands with you.

We also call on Sibanye-Stillwater and the Department of Mineral Resources to ensure a thorough investigation into this tragedy, and that every measure is taken to protect the lives of workers underground. One death in the mines is one too many.

May the souls of our fallen comrades rest in peace, and may their families find strength in this difficult time. 🕊️🕯️

HAPPY FREEDOM DAY COMRADES✊🏻💯

27 April 1994: Millions stood in queues to vote for the first time. That vote broke the chains of apartheid‼️

As NUM, we celebrate Freedom Day because _political freedom was step one_. Economic freedom — living wages, safe workplaces, dignity for workers — is the step we’re still fighting for.
WE STILL FIGHT FOR
⭕️- Safe jobs
⭕️- Living wages
⭕️- Dignity at work

“FROM CHAINS TO CHANGE — WE STAY ON GUARD”

We guard the ballot. We guard the workers. We guard the future.

Happy Freedom Day to all workers in mining, metal, construction and energy.
‼️‼️NUM Lives. NUM Leads‼️‼️
