💙 Diabetes Awareness Day at Netcare Milpark Hospital 💙

On 11 September 2026, Netcare Milpark Hospital hosted a Diabetes Awareness Day as part of a community project by our third-year Social Work student, Lauren Tibbatts from the University of the Witwatersrand.

The event welcomed 75 participants, who had the opportunity to receive health screenings, including blood glucose testing, height and weight measurements.

Participants also gained valuable information about diabetes risk factors, prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and the importance of regular health screenings. The role of social workers in supporting patients and families living with diabetes was also highlighted.

This community project beautifully demonstrated the importance of bringing social work and healthcare together to promote awareness, empower individuals, and encourage proactive steps towards better health and wellbeing.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this initiative a success! 💙
